About this deal

Tapatio has been made at the distillery since 1937 and is the pride of the family. To give this tequila 1 star out of 5 is simply ignorant if you like Ocho so much. Ocho & Tapatio Blanco are two of my favourite tequilas, they are very close cousins. If you love one, you will enjoy the other. Después de la destilación, Tapatio Blanco reposa en tanques de acero inoxidable durante aproximadamente cuatro semanas antes de ser embotellado.

A tequila labeled simply “gold” or “joven” is unaged, possibly with caramel coloring or other sweeteners added. Tequila may be bottled without maturation or aged in oak barrels. The length of aging determines how it is labeled: Colorless blanco or silver tequila is aged fewer than two months in oak; reposado between two and 12 months; añejo for more than one year. Extra añejo is a category added in 2006 that includes tequila aged at least three years in oak vats under 600 liters. Generally, the longer tequila ages in oak, the smoother and more full-bodied it becomes. I really like Tequila ARETTE Clásica Blanco. It has a sweet aloe and ginger flavor as well as crisp minerality, making for a really refreshing Margarita while being equally nice to sip neat. It’s very affordable, too!” —Tyler Cazes, general manager, Lengua Madre, New Orleans Producers continued making mezcal with Mexico’s many agave species, but it became clear that one particular plant delivered the best spirits. In 1902, Alsace-born botanist Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber classified this species as Agave tequilana Weber azul, or Weber blue agave. Well, Speciality Brands, I can assure you that I will not be giving up tequila, since it is my spirit of choice. What I WILL be giving up is Tapatio Blanco. It is, quite simply, an extremely unpleasant tequila. I thought I would give it a fair try, so had it straight, with sangrita, in a margarita, etc. etc. etc. but one simple fact kept rearing its ugly head... It tastes "chemically", almost a soapy flavour which, I can assure you, is not what I look for in a tequila. The beautiful hacienda of Herradura now boasts an almighty distillery to produce enough spirit to meet the demand for its Tequilas. The Plata is aged for 45 days in American oak barrels. A nose of marzipan, cooked agave, orange, lime and pine sap leads onto a palate full of vanilla, orange oils, honeyed agave and pencil shavings. Alc 40% I would choose PATRÓN Silver from Jalisco, Mexico, and use it in a classic Margarita. I look for a tequila made with 100 percent Blue Agave, and that’s the case with PATRÓN Silver; it’s crystal clear, light, fresh, and smooth.” —Alex Serena, bar manager, Teleferic Barcelona, Palo Alto, Calif. However you choose to drink them, here are a few great bottles to get you started… The best blanco tequilas: 12 to try Like wine and other unique spirits, tequila is produced according to regulations that govern its appellation of origin. Tequila may only be made in the state of Jalisco, which includes the town of Tequila, and parts of the surrounding states of Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit and Tamaulipas. It must be made from blue agave and in accordance with additional rules for ingredients and aging. Spirits made using other agave species or elsewhere in Mexico are classified as mezcal. The blue agave plant can reach eight feet in height and matures at around six years old. Sugars collect in the core of the plant, the piña. Producers chop up the piñas and cook them in large ovens, then press the juices from the cooked pieces and ferment them with yeast.

Here, I’m not just sharing opinions; I’m weaving tales from the rich tapestry of my experiences over these three decades. The El Tesoro line of tequilas is a personal favorite of mine. They grow their agave in the highlands region of Jalisco in a high altitude with mineral-rich soil. Their blanco is particularly peppery with really pleasant fresh grassy notes. It’s great on its own or makes a surprisingly complex Margarita.” —Bryan Schneider, bar director, Quality Branded, NYC Tapatío Blanco es un perfecto tequila para quienes gustamos de los sabores fuertes y las altas concentraciones de alcohol.Brand new to the US market, Tapatio has a large following amongst tequila lovers. I'd never had any of the juice sold in Mexico, so I was very much looking forward to trying this one. A juicy and well-made blanco for a tequila Old Fashioned is my first thought — something like Gran Centenario, or even more affordable, el Jimador. Añejo such as Corzo or the Select Barrel line from Milagro for a tequila Manhattan on special occasions is great as well.” —David Porcaro II, mixologist, Sparrow + Wolf, Las Vegas Don Julio is named after the brand’s founder, Don Julio Gonzalez, who started making Tequila in 1942 when he was 17 years old. The flavour profile of Don Julio Blanco is hailed as a classic, balancing creamy and peppery characters with a vegetal note, some lemon, pastry and a clear minerality. Alc 40% Spain lifted the ban for good in 1792, and in 1795 gave a license for the production of tequila to Jose María Guadalupe de Cuervo, maker of what is now the world’s best-selling tequila, Jose Cuervo. Created in partnership between Olmeca master distiller Jesús Hernández and two top bartenders from the UK, this 100% agave tequila hailing from the Highland region of Jalisco boasts a nose full of agave character, alongside grass, citrus and spring blossom. These characters continue onto the palate, accompanied by a chalky hint and a cocoa finish. Alc 38%
