Nella storia di King, Harold Parkette ingaggia la "Pastoral Greenery and Outdoor Services Inc." per tagliare il prato, che era rimasto trascurato dopo che un ragazzo ingaggiato per quel lavoro aveva ucciso un gatto in un incidente. L'uomo che arriva per eseguire il lavoro fa colpo su Parkette usando la locuzione 'per Circe' tradendo il suo dialetto proletario. L'uomo, alla fine, utilizza una vecchia falciatrice rossa che si muove da sola mentre lui la segue carponi nel suo tragitto, nudo, mangiando l'erba. La falciatrice macella anche una talpa e l'uomo la mangia senza indugio. Osservando questa scena Parkette sviene e quando viene fatto rinvenire dal soccorso dello strano uomo, nota che questo ha barba e peli pubici verdi e denti e labbra pelosi come un coniglio. Questo rivela che sta lavorando per Pan. A questo punto, Parkette, spaventato, tenta di chiamare la polizia denunciando un uomo nudo nel suo giardino. Il seguace di Pan lo nota e porta la falciatrice in casa martoriando il tappeto e il tavolino da caffè. Parkette tenta di fuggire, ma la falciatrice lo raggiunge e lo tratta allo stesso modo della talpa di poco prima. Quando arriva la polizia il tenente Goodwin sostiene che Parkette soffrisse di "schizo-fotti-frenia", ovvero che era impazzito per il caldo ed era lui stesso l'uomo nudo che correva nel giardino (anche confortato dalla denuncia di uno dei vicini, a cui era parso fosse Parkette a compiere quei pazzi gesti) ignorando il fatto che i ragazzi del laboratorio sostenevano che qualcuno avesse rincorso la vittima nel soggiorno con una falciatrice.

In the following, I will list a short overview on the particular stories with my opinions on them. Because well, it's impossible for me to review this collection without taking a look at each of the stories itself, with so many crappy and so many fantastic short stories combined in one book. Heart-breaking tale of two sibbings (brother and sister) and how their strong connection when they were kids was getting weaker and weaker, meanwhile they got older and their paths took separate but kinda of similarly depressing fates. A wonderful dark sci-fi set on a snow drenched night in Bangor, Maine. Personally, I think this is a fantastic setting for a creature feature. Gray Matter is essentially the blob meets Stephen King. One of the more frightening stories, but certainly also belonging to the more forgettable ones in this collection. What´s amazing, and a shame at the same time, is that King is so creative that Hollywood desperately took any grain of premise to make a movie out of it, as if there were no directors, screenwriters, and other authors capable of creating a short story or novel that could be made a movie. Also, a proof of that the book is always better, which might be a subjective obsessive reader´s opinion and not the universal, forever wisdom I am famous for. Fart joke, lol.
