Description

For the second set in a row, Magic: the Gathering is shaking up the way players experience prerelease events. There will be a big difference in available products, and players will be able to get their hands on the full set sooner than ever! In this article, I’ll go over everything you need to know about The Brothers’ War prerelease. Communicate these updates to your staff as needed and keep them top of mind as you plan and schedule your events. With this announcement also comes an update regarding our policies for WPN stores. We have seen success from policies put in place over the last couple years, and will be continuing the following policies for the WPN:

The Brothers’ War Prerelease events start Friday, November 11th, 2022, and carry on until the set’s official release on November 18th. Unearth is a returning mechanic that hasn’t been seen in Standard since Alara Reborn. It’s an activated ability seen on artifacts and creatures that lets you pay a cost to return them from the graveyard to the battlefield. Once returned the permanent gains haste and “ exile this at the beginning of the next end step.” Keep in mind that unearthed permanents also get a replacement effect to exile them if they’d otherwise leave the battlefield in any way. Powerstone artifact, for Arbalest Engineers, Argothian Opportunist, Ashnod, Flesh Mechanist, Cityscape Leveler, Excavation Explosion, Fallaji Excavation, Geology Enthusiast, Gix's Caress, Great Desert Prospector, Hall of Tagsin, Horned Stoneseeker, Junkyard Genius, Koilos Roc, Mishra, Lost to Phyrexia, Powerstone Engineer, Repair and Recharge, Sarinth Greatwurm, Sibling Rivalry, Slagstone Refinery, Splitting the Powerstone, Static Net, Stern Lesson, Stone Retrieval Unit, Thran Spider, Urza, Powerstone Prodigy, Urza's Command and Visions of Phyrexia. Unearth is another returning mechanic — “[Cost]: Return this card from your graveyard to the battlefield. It gains haste. Exile it at the beginning of the next end step or if it would leave the battlefield. Unearth only as a sorcery.” Soldier artifact creature, for Conscripted Infantry, Emergency Weld, Mass Production, Mishra's Onslaught, Myrel, Shield of Argive, Platoon Dispenser, Scrapwork Cohort, Siege Veteran, Skystrike Officer, Third Path Iconoclast and Urza, Planeswalker.

Tabletop Release Leads the Way

a b Mark Rosewater (August 22, 2022). " Dominaria United We Stand, Part 2". magicthegathering.com. Wizards of the Coast. Blanchwood Prowler is a favorite enabler while Gaea's Courser and Overwhelming Remorse are some of the better payoffs. Boros Aggro There actually aren’t many cycles in this set, but let’s see if we can learn anything from the few that exist. Common Self-Mill Creatures Two updates are going to make The Brothers' War Prerelease events—starting November 11—the can't-miss events of the fall. Meld is another returning mechanic that was first seen in Eldritch Moon. Meld is a splashy mechanic that allows you to physically combine two cards into one uber powerful card. The conditions for doing this will always be owning/controlling two unique cards and doing something specific that they ask of you.

Splashing is still possible in this set, but your options are limited. Use these cards to help add that splash or third color: Overwhelming Remorse is the best common removal in the set. It only needs to cost one less for a good rate and becomes insanely efficient with self-mill and trading creatures. Red Bundles also come with promos, featuring one of the legendary characters who took sides in the Brothers' War, Queen Kayla bin-Kroog. Two common blue Auras that can enchant an artifact. They represent the powers of Urza's Mightstone - empowering an artifact - and Mishra's Weakstone - disabling an artifact - respectively with mirrored art. These are powerful and flexible rares, most of which I expect to P1P1 when I open them. The best of the cycle is easily Titania's Command (hint: choose two bears and +2/+2 counters on everything), but none of them are bad. Urza's Command is the only instant of the cycle. Urza and Mishra Cards Evangel of Synthesis shows off Dimir’s theme in The Brothers’ War, which is a repeat of Throne of Eldraine’s Izzet ( ) archetype. There was no Welcome booster released with The Brothers' War. Stores received the Dominaria United one, instead.
