About this deal

I may as well get this out of the way now. If you have only just found out about the Soul Food, you may have also heard about another pedal: the Klon Centaur. The Soul Food is a clone (or ‘Klone’ in this case) of the Klon Centaur.

The pedal circuit uses hard clipping and has an internal charge pump that boosts the 9v power to 18v internally. This offers a significant amount of headroom. But remember – you still power it with a 9v adapter. Most variants of this pedal have a buffered output. In the case of the MXR Sugar Drive, you can switch between buffered output and true bypass via a switch on the side of the pedal. Hand on heart, I can’t say that the Belle sounds better when boosted by the KTR. This is definitely a matter of taste. Here, I’m not trying to ‘fix’ a problematic sound. I’m using the KTR to change the flavour; to make a good sound into a great one. I’m not convinced it does.Tone aficionados kept telling EHX’s Mike Matthews about a pedal that had achieved a lot of buzz because it was only obtainable at an exorbitant price. That pedal was the KLON CENTAUR. Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered. The Axe-FX 3 is running my own custom ‘OD Pedals v4’ preset. I’ve built this to emulate the sound and feel of my physical Marshall DSL20HR’s clean channel into a pair of 1×12 cabs fitted with Celestion A-Type and Celestion Blue speakers. It doesn’t get much easier to use than this. It’s a simple overdrive pedal meant for those who like a simple tone. Overdrive and booster pedals work best with avalve amp so if you own a solid state amp, this may or may not suit your needs. You will know for sure whether this is the right pedal for you by listening to the tone in the video later.

What this DOES sound like is a nice clean low gain overdrive. Think that barely broken up bluesy sound, something like "Jenny Don't Be Hasty" by Paolo Nutini kinda sound.I didn’t want to waste my money on a pedal that I was expecting to dislike. What’s Your Signal Chain Today? So, plugged in, powered up, struuuum...THE nicest cleans I've ever heard. Rich and full of harmonic content that's absent plugged straight into the amp. So, in this list, I’ve focused more on overall tone (yes, it’s subjective, I know), value for money, affordability, build quality, etc. Conclusion
