Description

It’s definitely not going to do your pores or oily skin any favors. But it’s probably for layering with makeup This has been my go-to sunscreen this Summer and I’m so sad I’ve almost run out of it. Asides from the overwhelming scent of alcohol which dissipates after a few minutes, I love the cooling sensation after application. I mean there’s a reason why it is described as a ‘Watery Essence’. It is the perfect Summer sunscreen. If you don’t normally wear makeup, you might want to opt for a tinted sunscreen like Australian Gold instead, which helps blur imperfections, delivers a matte finish to reduce shine at the end of the day (and is also rated PA++++). The Bioré UV Watery Essence Aqua Rich Sunscreen contains an advanced micro defense formula that is specifically developed by Bioré for this particular product. The formula not only helps spread the product evenly and smoothly onto the surface of the skin, but the formula lets the product stay on your face longer. This list of ingredients represents all options or variants of this product. Actual ingredients in a given product option may vary from this list.

As always with Japanese sunscreens it does contain alcohol however, after testing on my drier skin I can say that I didn’t experience dryness from it. It does contain some very nice hydrating ingredients like royal jelly extract which may off set the alcohol.I solemnly swear to research skin care and beauty products, ask my dad (the chemist) for advice, and share those findings with you! However, due to the complex and well-developed formula, as well as the ability to build up the product without making your skin uncomfortable, I’m not too worried about how to use it. But it would be nice to have some reference to follow. Octinoxate is the only FDA-approved active that is included in this product. The other three are not currently approved for use in U.S. sunscreens, they have been approved outside the U.S. for some time. This article from BASF (the maker of these sunscreen actives) explains it. Tinosorb S is an oil-soluble UVA filter that peaks in protection around 350nm, and has been available in Europe since 2000 (with approval in Japan and Australia about five years after that). Uvinul A Plus’s protection peaks around 355 nm. This makes both Tinosorb S and Uvinul A Plus good sources of UVA protection (hence the high PA++++ rating for this sunscreen). My Dad the Chemist’s review of Biore UV Aqua Rich Water Essence SPF 50+ PA++++

However, these actives has good field data from years of European consumers, I think it should be a good formula based on the ingredient list. clear, oil-soluble, “cosmetically-elegant” liquid, not photostable (loses 10% of its SPF protection ability within 35 mins), needs other filters to stabilize (like Tinosorb S) Dear Emily, when I worked on sunscreen formulas for Europe, I still use US approved sunscreen actives even though Europe has approved a few other effective sunscreen actives as those in the Japanese formula.Biore UV Aqua Rich Light Up Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ isn’t as great as the original and much beloved Biore UV Aqua Rich Light Up Essence SPF 50+ PA++++. But I felt a little more protected using this if you can believe that and although, it had a white cast and took a bit longer to absorb I thought it wore very comfortably and looked great under makeup. I would buy it again! Ethylhexyl Triazone (also known as octyltriazone or Uvinul T 150) protects against UVB ( read more about it here) c10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, polysilicone-9, glyceryl stearate, aminomethyl propanol, vinyl dimethicone/ I thought it was very comfortable to wear and super breathable. It also removed very easily at the end of the day. It’s not something I’d rely on if I were out and about for longer periods of time in the sun but it’s ideal for heading into the office, running around a few stores, etc….! It’s lightweight, it wears well under makeup without pilling or looking too dewy or greasy, and it feels very smooth. The white cast is a bit of a pain the deal with and the fact it takes a little time for it to absorb but you can apply it before anything else and go dry your hair or get dressed and by the time you’re done you’ll be ready to apply your makeup!

Although you can use both products on your face and your body, the biggest difference between these two products is that the Biore Aqua Rich UV Watery Essence is better to use on your face as a foundation primer rather than the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel, which may be better to use on your body. The Biore UV Aqua Rich watery Gel may be used on your face for foundation primer, but the chances that the sunscreen gel would become flakey is higher since the gel version is denser than the watery essence version. This is formulated for those that require protection from the sun but won’t be in the sun for longer periods of time. It’s a sunscreen you want to wear if you’re dashing around outside a bit but aren’t going to be exposed to the sun for long periods of time. It’s a great daily SPF. I tan easily and this won’t prevent me from tanning but it will help to protect my skin when I wear it. My dad formulated sunscreens for American companies that sold their products in Europe, but still didn’t use actives that weren’t approved in the U.S. So he doesn’t have personal experience with these non-U.S.-approved actives. However, he does think that the actives have very good field data and have performed well for European consumers over the years. Therefore, he thinks that this sunscreen will be a good formula, as long as it’s stable.

Tony Moly

For my everyday makeup look, I usually apply concealer or foundation on top of my sunscreen. When I used the Biore Sunscreen in the same method, my makeup did not budge at all, which means that it’s very effective to use as a makeup primer. I’m sure you’ve come across Biore products at one point or the other. You’ll be happy to know that it is originally a Japanese brand owned by Kao Cooperation and established in 1887. But in 1997, they launched in the U.S market which is why you see a lot of their products in drugstores. But the problem with these products is that they have been altered to cater to the U.S market. This is why I never hesitate to buy my products directly from Japan because I know I will be getting an authentic Japanese product. This formula also contains silicones, which may cause breakouts in some people (though my skin doesn’t seem to react negatively to silicones). It also includes royal jelly extract, which is used more commonly in Asia than in the U.S. According to this article, royal jelly is applied topically to help reduce inflammation and moisturize the skin. Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (also known as bemotrizinol or Tinosorb S), which provides broad spectrum protection and becomes more powerful when combined with Ethylhexyl Triazone (also in this formula) Overall, I have to say, it is pretty difficult to think of any cons, because the product works very well with my skin. Nonetheless, I will be listing some cons that do not apply to myself, but may be applied to others. The Pros:
