While Titsey Farm is probably best known for being transformed into an authentic French farmstead for Steven Spielberg's World War One epic War Horse, it also provided the farm location for the second Nanny McPhee film. World War Two vets travel to England for a reunion at their old base. Once there, one rekindles an old romance with an old flame. One of Surrey’s most picturesque villages, Shere, makes an appearance alongside Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr. A group of wealthy people prepare for their doomed voyage on the Titanic at the luxurious Great Fosters hotel, Egham.

Location filming took place in Shere - it was also one of several 1960s British horror films to be scored by the avant-garde Elisabeth Lutyens, whose father, Edwin Lutyens, designed Manor House Lodge in the village. This Cate Blanchett starring historical thriller was filmed in part at Waverley Abbey, Bourne Woods and Frensham Little Pond. In this film starring American actor Bill Murray, there is a scene where he is involved in a police chase on Croydon flyover and Dingwall Road. The location work - usually one of the most costly features of scripted television - is plentiful and the acting is more or less solid throughout. As you would expect from such a short serial, the whole thing runs like the clappers and the scripts - mostly by Clive Exton, who would later bring Poirot and Jeeves & Wooster to television - wisely play it straight throughout. There is, of course, the odd bit of wince-inducing dialogue, but all such things can be waved away as attempts at period authenticity.

Starring Keira Knightley in the title role, Ralph Fiennes as her husband and Hayley Atwell as his mistress, the cast spent several days at Clandon Park, which doubles for the former aristocratic residence Devonshire House in London. All action shooting took place with Daniel Craig, Dame Judi Dench et al on MoD land near Elstead, where the childhood home of James Bond was created. The mountains and lake were later added by CGI. The beautiful St Michael’s was one of three churches used in this classic romantic comedy that propelled Hugh Grant to international fame. Another was St Peter and St Paul, the Saxon church at Albury Park, Albury.

The acting is again pretty terrible, never worse than in an appalling fight scenes. The story is much less interesting and involved than in the second film and to be honest, even at just over an hour it struggled to hold on to my attention. The ending is an anti-climax. Actress Sienna Miller caused a stir when she filmed a ‘naked’ scene in a pond at Albury, near Guildford, dressed in next to nothing. The scenes where Peter O’Toole comes off his motorbike were shot at the largest National Nature Reserve in the south-east, Chobham Common.
