Tall fescues can also do well but they just don’t look that great on a domestic lawn. Tall fescues are mostly used where a ‘good look’ is less of an important factor. Improved soil conditions: Seaweed contains alginate, a structural part of cell walls that gives seaweed flexibility, allowing it to withstand tidal forces. When alginic acid is applied to soils it acts as a soil conditioner, helping to improve the soil. Salts from the alginic acid combine with metal molecules in the soil to form bigger, heavier molecules. These molecules then attach to soil particles, binding them together to improve the soil structure. This results in better water and air movement through the soil. Eeeek! Whenever we hear the word “growth hormone” we think of unnaturally large plants doing strange things. But that just doesn’t happen. Grass can only grow as tall or as fast as it is genetically programmed to do. Plant hormones make sure that growth does happen. In a lawn that’s important – because we want strong plants that can out-grow the moss and weeds.

For hose ends we need to work out what the flow rate of water is so we can work out how long to spray the hose end sprayer for. Lawns can be vulnerable to various types of diseases, pests, and drought. Liquid seaweed or sea kelp liquid fertilizer applications can reduce drought stress and improve your lawn’s ability to resist disease and pest damage. A better defense system makes for a healthier lawn. Boost Photosynthesis and Chlorophyll Production MicroLife Super seaweed is unique like every other example of seaweed fertilizer I've provided. As a pro-multi-purpose foliar nutrient spray, it offers more than 100 essential plant minerals, which include amino acids, carbon, and protein.

The UK's leading premium seaweed fertilizer

Calcified seaweed is produced from naturally occurring beds of calcified and coralline algae. Some sources are more sustainable and renewable than others, so it is worth reading the product information or phoning the manufacturer for details of provenance. When used in the garden, calcified seaweed is an alternative to garden lime, with added trace elements and plant nutrients. It is usually more costly than garden lime. SIMPLE AND SAFE TO USE FOR ALL PLANTS: Add to every watering, it’s that easy. No risk of over application, plants love kelp. Clean Kelp aids in every stage of growth for root and stem health. Beneficial bacteria and fungi. All soils naturally contain bacteria and fungi that have symbiotic relationships with plants. Supplementing them via seaweed fertilizers helps promote plant and root growth and strengthen plant defenses. These bacteria also produce auxins, cytokinins, gibberellins, and anti-fungal metabolites to ward off fungal diseases. Beneficial fungi in the root zone help plants to use water more efficiently while also increasing disease and salinity resistance. How to use it on your plants

We decided to trial the feeds with pelargoniums as they’re very hungry plants that need plenty of fertiliser to grow well. They also clearly show nutrient deficiencies in their leaves, and there are marked differences in size and flowering depending on whether they’re getting enough goodness.

Liquid seaweed fertilizer is simply what its name suggests: a fertilizer that has been derived from natural seaweed sources. Seaweed is collected, some of the saltwater rinsed away and then allowed to decompose or ferment in water until the plant material is broken down into a liquid or slurry. This is perhaps why there is confusion over whether products containing seaweed extracts are feeds or stimulants. Some conventional feeds incorporate seaweed, but the two seaweed products we included in our trials, Maxicrop Original and Westland Liquid Seaweed, are both described as stimulants. Neither give an NPK rating and the makers talk more in terms of their ability to boost root growth, ensuring plants can take up nutrients. In our trial, we saw there was some benefit to using a seaweed stimulant when compared with the pots that we didn’t feed, but the advantage was minimal.
