The first Canadian production was presented in Montreal, at Théâtre La Licorne, from November 19 to December 14, 2012 with Quebec French translation by David Laurin and direction by Frédéric Blanchette. The cast of l'obsession de la beauté included Anne-Élisabeth Bossé, Maude Giguère, David Laurin and Mathieu Quesnel. [6] Will Kent get his comeuppance? Will Steph get over her rage and move on with her life? Will Greg muster up enough the get up and go to take something life changing and positive out of the ill-chosen remark without which his 4-year relationship might have gone on another indecisive and non-life changing years? Will Kent get his comeuppance and will his marriage to Carly survive? It's well worth a trip to the Lortel Theater to find out.

Lexi is a creative producer and performer in Australia. She created and ran Lakespeare & Co for over 3 years and is now permanently in Canberra producing 'not-Netflix' experiences at the Mill Theatre at Dairy Road. reasons to be pretty might have worked even better if brought in with the same 90 minute run time as Fat Pig. But at any length, it's a fitting finale for the physical appearance fixated trilogy, delivering the usual verbal punches (and in this case even a few physical ones) — especially in this expertly directed, authentically staged and convincingly acted production. The little remark that turns into a big deal —polarizing the Steph-Greg, Carly-Kent, Greg-Kent relationship — is part of some macho talk between the guys. Kent's comments about a very pretty new employee has Greg misexplaining his less beauty-conscious attitude towards Steph. If only we could edit our remarks before they slip off our tongues! But Greg's straight from lung to tongue utterance is unretrievable and unfortunately overheard by Carly, for whom the word ugly is a red flag that makes her feel honor-bound to report what she heard to her friend Steph.

Far from being strictly American in content, the play allows the audience to access and connect with another side of Australian life, that of living in a country town or an outlying suburb. Please note that coarse language is used throughout this play and there are some flashing lights in the opening of the show. Sometimes in this play the audience experiences two characters fighting and swear words are used in these scenes. One character uses coarse language a lot! Like the principles embedded in the company, Lexi and Tim have built this show around emerging and independent actors, as well as stage and sound design crew, with an aim to build and support the growth of live Canberra theatre. Every member of the production team provides ‘shadow’ opportunities to emerging industry artists, with a view to mentoring them for the next production. Now that reasons to be pretty has arrived in its new home on Broadway with it's half-new cast, revised script here are my reasons to be enthusiastic: Meeting with Lexi and Director Tim Sekuless at this very space to find out more, I find Tim seated in the studio’s performance space.Director Terry Kinney, repeating his chores from the play’s previous off-Broadway production, has again elicited superb performances from his ensemble. And the playwright has done some welcoming tightening of the running time, with the biggest improvement being the deletion of the extraneous monologues in which the characters unnecessarily explained their motivations. Our modern world has upper cased and bold faced the reasons for wanting to be pretty. The national obsession with physical appearance keeps too many of us from nurturing more grown up and durable goals and relationships —with people having the least educational and job opportunities most likely to be trapped by this sort of group think about the value of being pretty. Reading this after watching the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial really makes you think differently about it. Like damn bitch why you gotta be throwing pans at someone’s head that’s straight up not okay. Not that i thought it was okay the first time I read it but it’s just so clearly abuse I’m trying to figure out what the playwright was doing with her. I had chosen LaBute’s Reasons To Be Pretty specifically because it poses the question: Why do we keep going when things get tough? It provides both the performers, and the audience, with an opportunity to reflect on this question in their own lives.” It’s a timely mental practice for the current times.
