Description

Get eight lumber fillets approximately 1×2 and about 44″ long. (These measurements are not crucial, as the lumber fillets will only be used to brace and hold the template boards in place.) The number of palings will not work out exactly, so one of the palings will need to be marked and ripped (cut) down. Fan the template boards out using the nail in the middle as the axis pivot ( fig 2). Rotate the lumber template boards around until all ends are an equal distance apart. Each piece of lumber should be at 45 degrees to one another.

Find or create an area of even ground where you intend to construct the gazebo. The area should have at least a 3000mm diameter to give you room to work. The next step is to shingle the roof with 3-tab shingles. cedar shingles can also be used in addition to cedar shingles. The result is stunning; it takes some work to achieve, but it is worthwhile. This entails some extra work, but the result is stunning. To keep your gazebo roof completely insulated, make sure the top is completely insulated. Because the structure is heavier than a square one, it must be fitted with a king post right in the middle. You can cover the top spot with more tar paper and also attach a piece of lumber there. Use your tape measure to make sure the king post will be right in the middle if you want your roof to be perfectly symmetrical. Fan the template boards out using the nail in the middle as the axis pivot ( fig 2). Rotate the timber template boards around until all ends are all an equal distance apart. Each piece of timber should be at 45 degrees to one another. Use 4” carriage bolts to attach the rafters to the perimeter post. Fix them as tightly as possible as the roof should be rigid to sustain the weight of the roof and not slant in any direction.

Before the gazebo frame is fully extended, put the fabric cover on. If you extend the frame before putting the cover on, you'll find it very difficult to stretch the fabric over the frame. Put the fabric over the frame first, and you'll open the frame and find a nice taut fabric cover on top. When all eight footings are marked the template can then be removed to allow for digging the holes. Dig all holes 20″ deep. The king post not only supports the weight of the roof, but it’s the central element that you attach the rafters to. If you already have the king post in place, good for you. Skip to the next step.

The size of the structure is another important consideration. Ensure the gazebo or pergola suits the scale of your garden and doesn't overwhelm the space. Remember to account for any additional space needed for accessories or garden furniture. If you go with slats, start from the top railing and work your way up to the part where the rafter meets the king post. Cut the slats to measure and attach them to the rafters using 2 ½” galvanized screws. We timed how long it took to put up and take down each gazebo. We also rated each one for how easy it is to adjust the height and tighten the fabric roof.We deliver to all parts of the UK and Ireland. However, in some areas we have to charge an additional fee. We heavily subsidise our deliveries and always aim to keep any additional charges to a minimum (Please see our delivery map.) Once the rafters are attached to the king post, secure them to the perimeter posts. Before you do that, put them into position and examine the structure so you know everything looks good. It is important that we know there is enough space for safe unloading. Please advise us of any access restrictions you may have to your property and don't forget to think about reaching it too i.e. narrow lane with low hanging trees / tight narrow corner turning in to road etc. Our delivery services to all zones and offer of free delivery to properties in zone 1 are offered and subject to us being able to use our standard delivery vehicles. If access problems or restrictions to your property mean we are unable to deliver via our standard vehicles then please call us to discuss your requirements. These circumstances are rare and we will always work with you to find a solution. Please note: If we don’t have advanced warning of access issues, we may have to abort the delivery and charge you a re-delivery fee.

Firstly, the choice of location is crucial. The structure should be placed in a part of your garden that is flat and stable, ideally with easy access to your house for convenience during socialising or dining events. The guide is intended for a 10 foot octagonal gazebo with 2 4 14 sides, which isn’t as difficult as it may appear. Anyone with basic DIY skills can do it. If you already have the king post, you can get rid of it now. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t put in a king post while building the gazebo. The king post is the structure that connects the rafters to the rafters. Place the post in a large flowerpot or concrete container to secure it. In step 6, staple the tar paper to the roof or lay it on top.

Consider the exposure to weather elements. If your gazebo is designed to provide shade, it should be positioned where it can offer the most protection from the sun. Similarly, if your structure is meant to withstand rain, ensure it's not in a location prone to flooding or water pooling. The roof is constructed of 150mm x 25mm sawn (undressed) treated pine timber, a timber commonly used for fencing, and readily available at any merchants. Scribe a pencil line down the length of the timber 30mm in from the edge fig 6. Do the same along all four edges. If you didn’t put up the top railings, now is the time to do it. It’s not difficult as you’ve already had to install the floor railings. It is sometimes wise to drill the nail holes first with a slightly smaller drill bit to minimize the chance of the timber splitting.Forest Garden - if you are looking for wooden gazebos, look no further than Forest Garden. This range is pressure treated and is provided with a fifteen year guarantee or When all eight footings are marked the template can then be removed to allow for hole digging. Dig all holes 500mm deep. Palram Canopia – browse and shop for a range of plastic (high impact polycarbonate) and metal gazebos from Palram Canopia An octagonal gazebo roof is a thing of beauty.
