Description

Like the R5, the R7 has an internet tuner, so you can listen to thousands of stations from around the world using WiFi. They are based in the Scottish market town of Lanark, and have won several awards for the performance and design of their products since having been founded in 2004. Once you invest in a radio, you’re likely to own it for several years, so you want to make sure you choose one with excellent sound quality. It’s a good choice if you want something small, stylish and portable that sounds detailed and warm.

Most of their current products include ‘Super’ in the name (SuperCD, SuperConnect, SuperSystem etc.) There is a chunky plastic remote but the best way to wield and juggle all of these sources is via the app. There is no official app, but Revo uses the free Undok app to great effect. A hand-crafted wooden cabinet has been selected for its superb acoustic properties, no other material provides the deep foundations of great audio performance like wood. Then we consider its excellent build quality and huge list of features, which make it a strong contender indeed. If you have the space and are after a one-box system to do it all, this will do nicely. The kingpin of Revo’s SuperSeries range, the SuperCD is a seriously impressive unit. Not only is it a CD player, but it also comes with DAB radio and internet radio built in. But does it live up to the company’s stellar reputation? We’ve carried out extensive testing to put the Revo SuperCD through its paces. Read on to discover whether or not it is really worth the price tag.

Performance with Internet radio and DAB

The 2.7 OLED display is also available to give you an insight into whatever is playing, so you can use that to figure out what you want to do next with your system. Like Revo’s other DAB radios, the SuperCD boasts some seriously powerful audio components. Most significantly, it includes the company’s own custom Balanced Mode Radiator speaker drivers. These help achieve a rich, dynamic sound from smaller speakers. They make a huge difference even on smaller models, but the larger scale of the SuperCD really lets it rip. The CD player's innards take up a fair chunk of the space inside, but there’s still plenty of room for some extra audio wizardry. The SuperSignal’s compact size would make it a good choice for a kitchen countertop or bedside table. The design of this product is inspired by antique radiograms. It has four legs, like a table, and is not just a radio, but also a piece of furniture. There’s a gorgeous walnut wood casing, with volume control and CD slot on the top. Discs are loaded in vertically, which adds to the retro-futurist feel. The front panel, meanwhile, really looks the part, with a vintage design to it. In our SuperConnect review, we mentioned that model resembles a vintage hifi. The SuperCD takes that to the next level- with the way that the controls are set out, along with the wider body, it’s almost like a genuine guitar amp from the mid-Seventies.

Roberts are one of the most recognised radio manufacturers, with a history of making quality products. Aesthetically, SuperCD is a balanced blend of modernity and mid-century charm – perfectly proportioned, substantial, handsome. Whilst always looking to innovate, we also keep one eye on the past, learning and taking inspiration from the great designers of the 20th century. We believe that form should follow function and that attention to detail matters. Good design and the use of quality materials enrich and elevate the user experience. The REVO SuperCD combines everything that a high-class, modern one-box music system has to offer. It receives digital DAB and DAB+ radio, analogue FM radio and Internet radio and has a vertical top-loader CD player and USB media player. Video Das handgefertigte Holzgehäuse wurde wegen seiner herausragenden akustischen Eigenschaften ausgewählt. Holz ist als Material alternativlos, wenn man akustische Performanz der Spitzenklasse erreichen möchte. Look for brands that have a reputation for good sound quality. The best brands for sound quality at the moment are arguably Revo and Ruark, though Pure and Roberts make some great-sounding radios too.The Ruark R7 is the most expensive radio in Ruark’s range and probably the most expensive radio on the market overall. UNDOK centralises control of SuperCD’s various functions including DAB, Internet radio, FM, Spotify Connect and Network Audio. Music played via Bluetooth and AUX-IN modes can also be distributed across a multiroom network using the UNDOK app. The more we played, the more songs reacted badly to the 3D setting, and we ended up keeping it off, with one notch down also on the treble slider to prevent residual fizziness in the treble. Cutting-edge sound modelling techniques have been used to design SuperCD’s award-winng sound profile. In tandem with our custom hardware design, SuperCD’s proprietary EQ configuration develops a warm open sound with clarity, detail and deep rich bass – free from coloration and distortion and benefiting from an expansive sound field. Use UNDOK to conveniently search or browse through more than 30,000 stations and podcasts from around the world. Design & Materials

The Revo SuperSystem is designed to be an all-in-one music machine. It’s no surprise then that it comes with access to a range of streaming options, including internet radio, DAB+, DAB, and FM with RDS. Overall, you’ll be able to access around 24,000 stations from across the world. It also features access to Spotify Connect, which means you get another 30 million songs to choose from. We changed to internet radio – it was no better, indeed slightly worse on low-resolution stations. We were worried by this, to be honest: it was not the sound we expect from Ruark devices, which normally present a warm friendly radio sound. For the ultimate in convenience, the Revo SuperCD comes with high quality Bluetooth APTX connectivity. Connect up to your compatible phone, tablet, laptop or PC and you'll be able to wirelessly stream your stored music and music streaming services. This high quality version of Bluetooth also ensures the sound quality is closer to a wired connection than ever. The Revo SuperSystem is the flagship of the Revo range which is focussed on compact single chassis devices that are intended to be used as standalone systems. What sets the Revo apart from many of its rivals is that is equipped with a specification that goes a long way to justifying the use the word 'Super' in the title. The SuperSystem is able to offer a range of functionality that should allow it to take on a number of roles in a household. This radio has a lot of features. It offers FM/DAB/DAB+ radio as well as an internet tuner for listening to radio stations via WiFi.
