They have a well-cushioned midsole that provides a good amount of bounce; these boots propel me forward. The biggest test for me is always how badly my feet hurt after a long section of road walking on a multi-day hike, and these kept me going without being in too much pain. Big fan of these and Inov-8 in general The wear on my Inov-8 Roclite G 345 GTX boots after walking 1200 miles on my Lands End to John O’Groats and 3-Peaks challenge. You can read my review of the Inov-8 Roclite G 345 GTX boots here. RocFly G 390 boots sole wear after about 350 miles I find that the insoles in lightweight footwear only last a few hundred miles before they start becoming thin and uncomfortable. So I usually change them for Superfeet insoles but not so with the Inov-8 RocFly G 390 boots insoles. They still feel comfortable and still look to be in pretty good condition after about 350 miles. It’s important to note that the uppers are water resistant and not waterproof, so this might affect when you choose to wear them. Protection and breathability Alternatively, you can measure the length of your foot and add between 1 and 2cm to find the correct insole length. It is hard to be exact here, as sizing is so personal – but in hiking boots, running shoes or training shoes, we’d recommend having at least 1cm of extra space beyond the end of the longest toe to ensure comfort. Shoes UK Size Amongst its many testers has been inov-8 ambassador James Forrest, who recently used the ROCFLY™ G 390 boots to set a new record time for a solo and self-supported hike of Great Britain’s National Three Peaks. The RocFly G 390 boots feel very well made and look really smart and wouldn’t be out of place walking around town. But it’s the comfort that has really surprised me, especially the cushioning in the soles. As soon as I put them on I knew they were going to be good and probably my favourite walking boots. Inov-8 RocFly G 390 boots ComfortDPT/Footwear Science: A- ( Implementation of running footwear design into hiking makes the ride of this shoe unique) The lower the number on our scale, the narrower the fit, which ensures minimal internal movement of the foot when running fast on technical terrain. Shoes with the higher numbers on our scale will suit athletes with a wider foot and those wanting that extra comfort in the toe box. This wider toe box allows the toes to splay for increased stability when lifting heavy weights. It’s also perfect for longer runs and races when toes begin to swell.

Mizuno Alpha Eco Apparel - Super light performance clothing with sustainability and the future in mind Inov-8 has designed a hiking boot that includes both GRAPHENE-GRIP™ rubber sole for traction on trails and G-FLY™ Graphene foam – which is said to deliver “25% greater energy return”. The ROCFLY G 390 aims to make that question a little easier with a shoe that aspires to take the best of both worlds, providing the stability and ankle support of a boot crossed with the agility and ground feel of a trail runner. Wayne added: “I’m immensely proud of the huge team effort behind this new boot. We’ve worked incredibly hard with The University of Manchester and leading footwear industry veteran Doug Sheridan in developing new innovations – something we plan to supercharge even further in 2022 and beyond.” INOV-8 ROCFLY™ G 390: CONCLUSION

There is so much to love about the inov-8 ROCFLY™ G 390 and I have enjoyed wearing them for a huge variety of hikes, on a multitude of surfaces and over both long and short distances. So, If cushioning and comfort are high on your list of priorities, then the ROCFLY™ should be high on your list of potential hiking shoes. Durable Overlays - Extra durable overlays protect hard wearing zones against debris and vegetation. I didn’t think it was possible to make walking boots anymore comfortable than Inov-8 had already done with the Roclite range, but they’ve out done themselves with these. As soon as I put them on they felt good, I didn’t feel they needed any wearing in and went straight out for a 22 miles walk. I arrived home without sore feet or any blisters. I’m very impressed. Inov-8 RocFly G 390 boots I already have a second new pair ready for my 3000km Te Araroa hike in New Zealand. Further reading

I have a narrow foot and therefore the forefoot is quite wide but it’s not excessive. In fact, the boot is a better fit than many of the brand’s trail shoes. I also think it’s useful to have a wider toe box to allow for hot and swollen feet. The length of the boot is a true UK8.5. Vertical grooves cut into the rubber allow the foot’s metatarsal bones to move more independently, aiding adaptability and flexible grip when hiking over uneven terrain.

The soles are deeper than the Roclite range and any other hiking boot that I’ve worn. The extra cushioning was evident immediately, definitely designed for long distance hiking and to take out much of the impact from your joints on hard surfaces. There’s also a good amount of padding around the inside of the boots to keep them comfortably tight around your feet. Sole and Grip

It’s important to note that the uppers are water resistant and not waterproof, so this might affect when you choose to wear them. I will wear the boots in all seasons except high level winter mountains. The downside with lightweight footwear is that they wear out faster than the more traditional heavier walking boots. But Inov-8 have overcome this with adding Graphene to the soles, making them last at least twice as long. A few years ago I walked 1200 miles from Lands End to John O’Groatsin Inov-8’s first graphene soled Roclite G 345 GTXboots. I’d read many accounts of people walking this in lightweight footwear and wearing out 2 or 3 pairs during the walk. I was very surprised to complete the whole walk in just one pair. First impressions multi-directional 4mm deep lugs on each shoe have been meticulously shaped and positioned to improve both propulsion at the front and braking at the rear. Sam: Neither overly firm nor stiff as Alex says. Lots of forgiving cushion here with some bounce yet a ride that is no way mushy or unstable. An ideal midsole for many long days on trail. I wish I had had them for our 200 mile trek across Switzerland with its many miles of pavement and hard surfaces. The soles are made for trails and hills, although they are not as deep lugged as some of inov-8’s footwear that is made for steeper and muddier terrain. I have found the soles to be ideal for local woodland trails and hill paths. There is no question this is the most comfortable hiking boot top to bottom (cushion) that I can recall. It is an ideal choice for both long and short hikes as well as travel and any kind of long day on your feet.
