About this deal

These frayed edges may have been there when I got them — I’m not sure. I just know that I noticed it in the first couple of weeks of training, and they never got any worse even after several months. It hasn’t affected the strap’s functionality at all, so I consider this a predominately aesthetic flaw. I actually think it may just be extra thread leftover from a sloppy but functionally adequate sewing job in the factory. When considering deadlift shoes, regardless of the style of shoe you go for, you’re going to want your model to fit fairly snug, but not be overly tight. A snugger fit will prevent your feet from sliding around in the shoe and help you fully connect with the ground.

As you’ve learned above, deadlifting requires stable feet with a limited range of motion. This means that your feet technically have no option but to stay in the right position for deadlifting. Super thin 2-5 mm sole that puts you about as close to the ground as possible while still wearing shoes. Again, a thinner shoe equates to less pulling distance. Nike Romaleos have two lateral straps, very thin and flat soles, and a raised heel ¾” high; same height as Adipowers.

Deadlift Slippers (Deadlift Socks)

Powerlifting shoes are made with a flat and firm sole to enable for optimal power transfer from the feet to the earth. This is accomplished through a combination of design elements that work together to improve power transmission during lifts. However, they run narrow, so they aren’t the best deadlifting shoes for lifters with wide feet. The high ankle collar can also limit your ankle dorsiflexion when squatting, so they aren’t the best shoes for squats and deadlifts. If you have squats and deadlifts in the same workout, be prepared to change your shoes for each lift. These deadlifting shoes have tiny arch support that rises from 2 mm to 5 mm in the middle part of the shoe. Also, once you secure the metatarsal strap, you’ll enhance the arch support by pulling the midfoot section up. For my powerlifting-specific friends, you likely already have the preferred deadlift shoes that you like to compete and train in.

Different materials also have different levels between rigidity and flexibility. You're good to go as long as your shoes’ outsoles are hard enough to support you. Powerlifting shoes, in addition to the high top design, have a sturdy sole and a wide heel, which helps to spread weight evenly across the foot and reduces the risk of ankle rolling or twisting. This provides additional ankle support and stability during the lift, allowing you to keep proper form and technique. It should be noted that the ankle strap provides more subtle support compared to the metatarsal strap. For example, if you crank the metatarsal strap to its max capacity, it’ll be tight to the point of discomfort. However, if you attach the ankle strap as far as it allows, it will just be a bit snugger. It’s noticeable and does make an important difference, but it won’t make up for if you haven’t laced your shoes tight enough. As a general rule of thumb, you’ll want anywhere from .2″ to .5″ in the toe box, and select options that align with your foot’s overall width. Many lifters don't realize that a key part of deadlifting technique is reducing your range of motion. This requires a specific type of shoe that places your foot as close to the ground as possible.Running shoes are notorious for being one of the worst shoes for deadlifting. However, barefoot-style running shoes, like the Merrell Vapor Glove 5, are an excellent alternative to going completely barefooted.

Ankle strap: In addition to the high top design, the SABO Deadlift Shoes also have an ankle strap at the top of the collar. It secures from one side of the shoe to the other, crossing over the tongue. The strap has an elastic porition, allowing you to stretch it a lot or just a little bit, for more or less tightness. The slightly raised and narrow portion in the middle of the outsole: This forms the base of the shoe’s arch. Lastly, if you’re a huge fan of barefoot deadlifting, this awesome alternative should be on your radar as the best shoes for deadlifting!

Functional Trainers – Nike Metcon 2

What makes the Otomix Stingray special is that it has a relatively thinner and flatter sole than most boxing shoes. The rubber also gives it durability against heavy compression. One of the main advantages of donning powerlifting shoes is increased stability. When lifting large weights, a stable foundation is essential to avoid any unwanted movement or wobbling. Powerlifting shoes are built with a flat, sturdy foundation and a wide heel to provide this stability. T wo lateral straps allowing for an individual fit and precise tuning of tightness for the foot, ankle and heel.
