About this deal

Hopeline UK (Papyrus) – helpline for children and people aged 35 and under who are experiencing suicidal thoughts These qualitative methods have provided an unprecedented window into the individual, social and cultural contexts that underlie the issue of suicide in Scotland. Using different methods has meant we could talk to people who either can’t or don’t want to sit down for a formal interview. For people with severe mental health issues or for those who have experienced abuse at the hands of people they trusted (whether a loved one, stranger, medical provider, or service) there may be good reasons to want to avoid doing a recorded interview. Less formal conversations during our extended fieldwork have allowed us to explore how distress can be caused by issues like poverty, the cost-of-living crisis, state institutions (like schools, prisons, hospitals), families, discrimination, as well as other cultural factors.

My3 Support Network – app that lets users define their three critical people of their support network and allows them to be notified during a time of suicidal crisis I specialise in qualitative approaches, including drawing on arts-based/arts-informed methodologies.

Officers attached to the Homicide Bureau are continuing investigations. Speaking on TV6’s Beyond the Tape programme last night, co-host Snr Supt Roger Alexander remembered Marshall and Skeete as good officers, and criticised some of the comments being made on social media about them.

Mens’ Shed – support for lonely people who want to actively fix things whilst working on their own issues (not just for men)

What next?

He was on remand and due for release. from the facility, but died after spending three days in a coma at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The 30-year-old passed away following a three-day coma and a fatal accident inquiry (FAI) three years later ruled his death was “entirely preventable”.

She developed a submersible mirror to support water-births helping midwives view the birthing process more easily which reduced risk for both mum and baby. She won a number of awards for this innovation. It concluded: “There were opportunities both to respond more holistically to the information Romy actively disclosed about her mental health and wellbeing, and to monitor Romy’s ongoing situation more effectively, therefore allowing her to be identified as a student who was struggling and required additional support.” Amy’s work is giving suicide and self-harm research more dimensions, looking at the whole picture, rather than individual cases: “Although much has changed in how suicide is responded to and made sense of, all too often suicide is met with silence, or negative, stigmatising responses. Additionally, it is framed as an individual issue of mental illness, with social and cultural contexts rarely discussed.

Read more about the Centre for Pesticide Suicide Prevention

The centre is also developing relationships with regional groupings of national pesticide regulators, including the Asia Pacific Plant Protection Commission (APPPC), to strengthen regional capacity and collaboration on the identification, reporting, regulation, replacement and monitoring of highly toxic pesticides. There has already been some success, with a ban on one rodenticide introduced earlier this year. With CPSP’s support, the state has also taken steps to improve data collection and recording of suicides and poisonings. This will help them make a more informed decision in the future. What next? Fiona leaves behind a loving husband, sons James and David and a "wonderfully supportive legion of wider family, friends and colleagues who are heartbroken by her loss and will love and miss her always."
