I can see a 200g weight difference... is it due to the absence of the porch footprint in the Helvellyn compared to the Hydra or the former is actually lighter? But, in my opinion, it’s a pretty rubbish porch area. My new MSR Hubba one-person tent is smaller inside but has a much bigger porch. Firstly this tent is new for 2018. I have owned Vango tents in the past and this new model is definitely improved into terms of materials and construction. The aluminium poles provided are lightweight, strong and snap together really well. They also slot through the tent very easily. The pegs provided are a huge improvement - they have pointed ends and are just a more substantial feel when held. I haven’t had a problem with any bending on me yet! In terms of construction, the tent has a 3000mm HH with fully taped seams. I camped for 36 hours through a storm in Snowdonia and this tent kept solid and kept me dry! The porch area is adequately sized to ensure safe storage of gear etc but this section does not have a sewn in groundsheet. The sleeping area consists of an inner tent and 5000mm HH sewn in groundsheet. This inner tent section is good, spacious for one but cozy for 2, well ventilated and leaves a good 6 inches between the sides of the inner tent and the outer flysheet.
