About this deal

Hi all. So I've been mainly using chifi iems, kz zsn pro x, edx, etc and have every intention of going into more expensive territory sometime in the future, which includes desktop dac/amps. I hear a lot about 4.4mm balance and don't know much about it aside from supplying more power, but I do want to experience it when the time comes. Unbalanced connections derive their name from the relative impedance to ground of the two connections in each channel: hot or positive ‘+’ and ground or negative ‘-’. Because the impedance to ground differs, we call the connection unbalanced. While a vast improvement in power seems like an advantage, it is important to consider that more power doesn’t equate to improved audio quality. If the headphone can be driven easily by the amplifier, an abundance of power doesn’t necessarily offer any sonic benefits.

Headphone Jacks and Plugs: Everything You Need to Know

To further insulate the cable, iFi adopted the RoHS compliant, excellent dielectric property and super-soft (60P) HD polymer with 1500V AC spark resistance. The industry would like to equate balanced connections with expensive, high-end, and ultimate fidelity, however, this isn’t necessarily the case. In this article we will discuss the technology behind balanced and unbalanced connections and if it makes an appreciable improvement, or even a difference, in sound quality. Balanced Amplifiers or Sources Hello and thanks for the article. I am going down the balanced path now and having some issues. My DAP features a balanced out port (Sony NW-ZX300). It is louder, and to me, fuller and cleaner. I recently bought a Loxjie balanced amp and bought a 4.4mm to dual 3p XLR cable. The hum is overbearing and makes the cable unusable. Headphone cables come with a variety of connectors, and it can be difficult for the uninitiated to differentiate between balanced and unbalanced. For the purpose of this discussion, we are focussing on the end of the cable that plugs into the source, not into the headphones (as the headphone cup connector does not determine unbalanced or balanced; all headphone drivers are inherently balanced). Types of Unbalanced Headphone ConnectorsIt is important to be able to recognize an unbalanced or balanced headphone cable and connector. A balanced cable can be used in an unbalanced source with the proper adapter. However, attempting to use an unbalanced cable with a balanced source is *usually* not possible, and will likely damage the source. A notable exception is detailed below.

4.4mm to XLR Cable - iFi audio

As we have seen, there is no simple, clear-cut answer for whether unbalanced or balanced is a superior connection over the other. Whether a balanced connection provides an advantage depends on the circuits within a device and what provides the best signal path with the least degradation. In this way, the source, rather than the headphones, is the critical component. I thought, if I just buy something like a balanced 3.5 to 4.4mm cable, problem solved right ? Nope. For some reason, Denon themselves said in a Q&A, that we should NOT use a balanced cable with MM400, because it “may damage the coils”. Now I have a few questions. Our discussion of unbalanced and balanced connections refers to analog wired connections rather than digital. This means USB, SPDIF, and Bluetooth, etc. connections do not apply to this article. Line-Level Connections Source is PC --> iFi Zen DAC V2 balanced Amp/DAC --> 1. unbalanced 3.5mm output --> unbalanced headphones It also has intrinsic shielding provided by minZ™ helix construction. They protect the cable from RFI and EMI noise and provide the cleanest transfer medium possible. When I first listen to them I though they kinda sound quite low and had to increase the volume which is normal for other iems that I had listen to before. After spending some time, I came to realisation that these iems produce the musical quality at lower comfortable volumes and I do not have to crank the volume up. They are extremely detailed and airy and I can relax and listen to them for hours With UA5, we are pushing our UA line into a bit different category. While UA1 and UA2 worked nicely as simple USB Audio dongles, UA5 is quite a bit closer to your bigger portable DAC/AMPs. It seems that a lot of people think that which will become industry standard will largely due to the competition of Astell&Kern and Sony, champions of both standards. Right now in the market, it appears to me that 2.5 is used much more frequently than 4.4, as 2.5 is used in Onkyo, Hiby, Fiio, and many other popular DAPs brand other than AK.
