About this deal

LH: The parties were one of the most amazing parts of it, especially the last one which was my absolute favourite.

A Sky Painted Gold by Laura Wood | Waterstones

He disfrutado mucho con el ambiente de los años 20, una época que personalmente adoro, con las fiestas y detalles que hacía que disfrutaras mucho. What a stunning surprise. This novel feels like dancing with your friends at midnight, stolen glances across a crowded room, and the warmth of a sunset pouring in through gauzy curtains. But can reality ever live up to her expectations? What if her life - and falling in love - turn out to be nothing like she planned? This was a thoroughly delightful Cinderella retelling with lots of fun twists on the basic storyline. I love how Laura Wood plays with the fairy godmother especially. Iris Grey is a lovely Cinderella and the twist on the prince is pretty darn good too. I’m definitely going to enjoy re-reading this in the future.A Sky Painted Gold was a joy from start to finish and exactly what I needed after seven agonising weeks in the worst reading slump I’ve ever been in.

Under a Dancing Star by Laura Wood | Goodreads Under a Dancing Star by Laura Wood | Goodreads

The Great Gatsby meets I Capture the Castle in this gorgeously dreamy coming-of-age romance perfect for fans of A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. And I appreciate Iris' added social awareness because of her life after running away - she doesn't act like it would be a burden to be wealthy again, but she recognizes the valuable skills and strengths she's developed on her own, and the more humane perspective her life in London gave her. Lou's confusion over what she wants out of life and the choices this confusion leads her to make were incredibly relatable. Lou as a whole was such a likable main character for me but her fear over what to do with her future was my favorite thing about her. The other side characters were great as well, particularly Lou's large family. I have a particular weakness for Robert, who's serious nature and sarcastic comments are exactly what I love in a romantic interest. Speaking of romance, this book really delivered on the feels. I enjoyed the story as a whole but the romance was so well done that it absolutely influenced my feelings on A Sky Painted Gold for the better. Literary pursuits weren’t always easy in a busy, noisy household, but Loufound sanctuary in the house and grounds of the Cardew family. They seemed to have abandoned their Cornish home, and so she told herself she was doing no real harm by eating their apples that fell from their trees, reading books from their library, and even lighting a small fire to warm her on cold days.My main complaint about A Sky Painted Gold, is that I felt like nothing really happened until the last three chapters. Yes, the party scenes where fabulous and I do enjoy a good slow burn romance, but I feel like there was no real plot here. I do think Louise was a bit annoying and naïve, but we must remember she is only seventeen and this is her first time getting to see what life is really like outside of her village. Some things about the main character were a bit repetitive, such as Lou constantly worrying about never finding love or comparing herself to Alice. Two plot points I found rather predictable, but they were still entertaining! LH: It was! Because the details were so brilliant it really did seem like it was something you’d been to before, so have you ever been to a party like them? LH: With the dresses especially they sound like something out of a dream as well just they fit so well into the parties and everything. If you were to be going to one of the parties in A Sky Painted Gold, which dress that you created would you want to wear?
