About this deal

Two scary words for any SKY+ user are "Diskless mode". This is where your SKY box can no longer read the contents of its hard drive. Something has happened to the data on the drive such as corruption caused by a power failure when it was writing to the disk. You could try updating the software but chances are that won't fix your problem. The IT gurus among you could remove the hard drive and connect it to a PC and point a tool such as Spinrite at it, but again there are no guarantees although I have heard of limited success with using a hard drive repair tool like Spinrite followed by a system refresh. After weeks of trial, we've begun a phased rollout of the enhanced electronic programme guide (EPG). The first boxes to be updated will be the latest Sky+HD boxes (890 model) and the Sky+HD 1TB (895 model). The rest of the boxes (780, Samsung & Pace) will be updated later in the year.

But with so much to dine on you're gonna need a bigger boat if you want to keep on top of all the sport, movies and other entertainment available, and in the increasingly online world you'll also need an internet connection. Enter the new Sky+HD 2TB box - with built in Wi-Fi. Cant fault it the Samsung is in no dout better than the Amstrad, I don't care if people say that the Amstrad is quiet my top 3 I want from a box are picture quality sd & hd, response ie EPG, 100% recordings. The box needs to be quiet but its not the top 3 maybe 4-5 Your DRX780 could, of course, accidentally develop an 'unfortunate' fatal fault which could render it useless. . . and no longer able to receive the services. It was announced on 2 July 2008 that Sugar had stepped down as Chairman of Amstrad, which had been planned since BSkyB took over in 2007. I think, with a lot of things like this, the overal impression of the box or kit in question is going to be down to a lot of things including first impressions (mine was very poor), the quality of your signal and the broadcast (?), the display and seating distances? I am still convinced that some displays are going to struggle with SD because they are designed with HD in mind and the resolutions don't match up well. My Sharp only just manages 1080i, but was designed with SD in mind so the majority of SD pictures are crystal clear at my current settings and seating distances.

To remove clashes just start the app and connect to your Sky box and it will tell you about any clashes and will present you with options on how to resolve, which might entail moving a few programs around. I find that 8pm to 10pm Monday to Friday is when most clashes occur as this is the primetime TV slot. I record so much TV that I tend to switch a lot of my series recordings to the early hours when clashes are unlikely. Both HD and non-HD programs are repeated in the early hours so you can still get your programs without having to make sacrifices. PC1512 ( Intel 8086, 8MHz, 512 KB RAM, enhanced CGA graphics up to 640x200x16) - Marketed in the United States as the PC5120 Thankfully, this no longer really matters, since search functionality is now very effectively covered by the Sky+ app, which increasingly is becoming part and parcel of the user experience. In addition to BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and Demand 5, there's content from Sky One, Sky Atlantic, Sky Living, Sky Arts and Sky Sports. And 4od is promised for 2013. Usability For some reason Sky have not added the ability to detect automated clashes to their Sky box firmware. It can detect if you are trying to add a program to your planner that will clash with two existing programs but it cannot detect if it does it itself due to scheduling changes and Next Series additions. Instead Sky added this feature to their Sky+ app available for tablets and smartphones.

Sky+ Sky Plus HD Digibox Amstrad DXR890 250GB Personal

Had Sky HD installed on Tuesday,i opted for the Amstrad, similarly, having been "Advised" by the engineer, touch wood, the unit is quiet, and trouble-free so far!! Grundig 32 channel box with seperate decoder (had an 80cm dish with seperate power for LNB!):o we were the talk of the street when that bugger went up as everybody else nearby had those square ones!!!:D The Keep option prevents you from accidentally deleting a recording that you want to keep or from stopping the automated housekeeping software from deleting programs that you want to keep. What it cannot do however is prevent Sky from deleting a program from your recordings because the program in question has an expiry date or because Sky has a legal obligation to remove it. Perhaps disappointingly, Dolby Digital 5.1 is still only available over a separate digital audio lead - the HDMI feed is slavishly chained to stereo. The standard Sky+ remote in the box hints that the HD Digibox is more than just a dumb second-room box – it has an exciting future. Although not enabled yet, the Ethernet port will allow users to not only watch live streaming content from Sky Anytime+ via broadband, but also to connect to their main Sky+HD box.Sometimes the Sky Box won’t turn on because the batteries in your Sky remote are getting too weak to work. Replacing the batteries may help resolve the problem. Alternatively, if you have accidentally pressed the TV button on the remote, the Sky Box will become unresponsive. Press the Sky button on the remote to get the box to respond.

Sometimes your Sky box will just crash. The general symptom is a frozen picture on the screen and no response to the controls, whether via the remote or facia, or a channel or recording is playing but the system won't respond to any commands. If you were playing a recording from your planner the blue circle lights may still be animated on the front facia and pressing the remote results in LED flashes on the front of the box but there is no response on screen. There is only one course of action with a system crash: power the box off then on again. Turn the power off to the Sky box for at least 30 seconds then power it on again. It may take ten to twenty minutes before your box will respond as normal without informing you that it is initialising or being generally slow to respond. Some boxes can hang when ECO mode is enabled forcing them to go to sleep overnight. The problem is that the box cannot be 'woken up' forcing a power off and on to recover or in some cases a software update is needed. If your box is one of the ones affected by this problem it's probably worth disabling ECO mode and seeing if that helps. I know that my 2TB box hangs with ECO mode enabled so I have my boxes set to Active. To change the mode go to Services > Options > Sky+Setup > Standby Mode and set to ACTIVE or NONE. I'm in the process of restoring my Thomson HD recordings to the Amstrad and noticed that its got a 320GB WD hard drive (model: WD3200AVJS). I wonder if the extra 20GB is available for recordings or if its split 50/50 with anytime or if its not available for use at all Thank you so much. First generation.... that probably explains why i have so many niggly faults with it since the last major software update about 18 months ago! For serious failures where you cannot get to the menu system to perform a system reset then you can perform one via the facia buttons as follows:
