About this deal

The new valve with its silicone cap, the “O” ring, the very thin funnel and the painted heater container allegedly suggests those parts will be worn and/or become un-functional in relatively short period of use. Its shape somehow reminds a traditional moka pot column’s tip, but it is differ as it has a special internal structure with a silicone regulator. The most common way to describe the sizes is in cups. Those cups are espresso shots, not mugs. However, it’s not as simple as multiplying the average espresso shot (30 ml) by the amount of cups. The Brikka 2020 models produces slightly better crema (depends on the coffee used) and increased amount of coffee beverage, compared to older models, but those changes are not such that justify preferring it over previous models that are still being sold.

In 1930s Italy, Alfonso Bialetti invented a brewing system that revolutionized the process of domestic coffee brewing throughout Italy and soon the rest of the world. Based on his observations of Italian laundry equipment at that time, Bialetti imagined a brewing system that brewed coffee by passing pressurized boiling water through ground coffee. The result was the iconic Bialetti Moka Pot or Bialetti percolator, patented in 1933 and still in use globally today.

In general, my impression of the 2020 models is very disappointing. It is no more than a partial re-design of previous models and a marketing move. If needed, use replacement gasket designated for Brikka, or use a standard 3 cup or 6 cup Bialetti gasket accordingly.

Of course if you regularly drink 5 espressos to get started in the morning, you should size up. Although you might want to take a look at your sleeping habits if you need that. It might be tempting to go for a bigger pot and just fill it less when you don’t need it. However, moka pots don’t really work that way. A certain size is designed to work with a certain amount of water and coffee grounds. That means completely filling to the recommended amount will produce the best results.New valve system which does not protrude to the column sides, so it allows easier cleaning of the container. Many people like to drink coffee from a big mug. A moka pot doesn’t brew amount of coffee in those kinds of quantities unless you get a 6 cup one. However, it doesn’t have to. Since you’re brewing an espresso like coffee, you can create quite a few coffee drinks with it. Cappuchino, Latte and Americano being some of the most popular ones. Heat your coffee - place it on a moderately hot stove, angling the handle away from heat if not an induction stove, and leaving the lid open. Coffee will start to bubble into the top section
