About this deal

The shoes impressed me with their initial look and feel. When they showed up, the design was understated but nice, with a good accent color between the upper and the cushion. Sean M: "To put it plainly, the energy return of this shoe lets you push on your faster-paced runs but allows you to train every day while feeling that your energy is being reciprocated by the shoe." The upper looks nice and is hella comfortable, however, I wish it were a little more dialed in. This may be more Adrienne than Brooks. The upper of the Glycerin 19 feels so good that it was as if it was designed specifically for my feet. It fits true to size and the plush layers of mesh mold to your feet. The ride of the sole unit is smooth. There is ample cushion for the long runs, while still being responsive enough that you can run your tempos in them and feel fine.

The Glycerin may be sleek, but it is certainly heavy-duty. All the materials in the shoe are very high quality and durable. The Brooks Glycerin range has long been a favourite amongst the kind of runner that wants comfort above all else. The Glycerin 18 is the latest iteration of that shoe line, with Brooks adding a sprinkling of new design features to ensure it's still up there as one of the best daily trainers. I have never run in a more comfortable shoe, and I cannot fathom that a more comfortable shoe exists on the market. I’ve never ever thought of the Glycerin as a super soft ride. It’s always been one of the firmest max-cushioned trainers. There’s nothing wrong with being a firm, max-cushioned shoe. Some runners prefer firmer shoes because they are more stable and more responsive but the problem is that the advertising for the Glycerin is misleading. From a design perspective, the Glycerin 19 looks almost exactly the same as the Glycerin 18 and has very strong “dad” vibes. On my first run, the shoe didn’t feel special or ground-breaking but it did feel very natural and cushioned with a signature Glycerin ride. If you want a shoe that won’t cause your feet any problems, these are the move. Brooks’ logo is Run Happy; the Glycerins make that a reality. Our testers loved the jacquard mesh upper of the Glycerin 18. They felt that it provided stellar support with no compromises in comfort thanks to the padded heel collar and adequate stretch. The only problem with having a fully gusseted tongue is that the inner sleeve is like an extra layer of material inside the shoe so it makes the shoe feel warmer. ADRIENNE: Tech bros at Brooks– this shoe has the potential to be a badass daily trainer/easy mileage shoe; but please liven up the midsole. I realize the Levitate 3 brings some bounce, but the sensation of slightly sinking into shag carpet is not my favorite. Not trying to be harsh, just sayin’. Like I said, the potential is there! Everyone’s gait is slightly different, but there are four main types of running styles and pronation:The extra pressure causes the shoe to become more firm and responsive. When you are lightly jogging, you apply less pressure to the midsole. This causes the midsole to be softer and less responsive. This most recent edition has a similar midsole and outsole as previous versions, but Brooks has made a great update to the upper. I gave the Glycerin 17 a 100/100, but they somehow have improved it again. Upgrade your footwear: The best road running shoes to buy for men | The best road running shoes for women When running in the Glycerin 19 in over 28 degree Celsius weather, in the heat of the sun, my feet were sweating profusely. Our shoe lab results put the 18 in the middle of the spectrum in terms of weight. The women’s model lost tenths of an ounce while the men’s had a more dramatic drop from 11 to 9.8 ounces. Scores also showed the 18 as “stiff” to “moderately flexible”; results for the 17, on the other hand, read “very stiff.” When “Moderate Cushioning” Feels Just Right

I can confidently say that the Glycerin 19 is an improvement over the 18. The softer midsole is a move in the right direction and the ride transitions are smoother. These changes also don’t come at an increase in weight which is a bonus. The fit, for us, was true to size and we found the Glycerine 18 was comfortable as soon as you put them on. No need to wear them in or worry about chafes or rubbing. There are two, small reflective triangle windows on the heel for low-light visibility from the rear.
