The internet means we have instant connectivity to all of our friends and family at all times. Which makes it horrible and ironic that we can feel lonely and distanced from others. Climb to the top of the Statue of Liberty in New York City and look out over the city from her perch high above Manhattan’s streets (or go up to the top of any other skyscraper) You owe it to yourself to see them live. You’ll never forget the experience. 73. Quit Drinking (for a Length of Time) Have you ever sat down and tried to write a poem? Maybe not since school. It might feel stupid, or pointless. You might be short of inspiration and have no idea what to write or how to rhyme. If you’ve never watched them live, then you have to make it happen. Watching sports on TV is one thing. But it’s totally different to being there, watching the action first hand and soaking in the atmosphere.

Getting up and singing in front of people is my idea of hell. But some people seem to love it! Like to sing and/or make a fool of yourself in public? Most people have more stuff than they need. Before long, it gets to a point where the stuff actually owns you. The Ocean at the End Of The Lane, Neil Gaiman. Was recommended to my by a writer friend who is the biggest fanboy of Gaiman. It’s a short-ish read and one of my favorites. Am now a fangirl also. The Bluest Eye (Toni Morrison). It makes you cry not just for what the main character suffers, but for the way world works. And it is BEAUTIFULLY written. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. There’s an unending amount of lenses to analyze the text through, and you can look at so many different issues (alienation, guilt, reproduction even) while reading. Find something new to discuss or think about every time I read.

Learn how to dance salsa, swing, ballroom, or any other dance you’ve always wanted to learn how to do. Looking for a simpler challenge? Why not commit to standing up just once on the board! That way you can officially say you’ve surfed a wave! The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde – reading plays is a great experience but this one is hilarious. Same with drinking! Most people could do with a booze-drinking detox. Why not try fasting from your tipple of choice for a while? It’s natural to want to avoid things and situations that scare you. But facing your fears anyway will help you grow as a person. Now you probably know Bill Bryson from some of his really famous travel books. But my first introduction to him was through this one, where he decides to walk the entire Appalachian Trail with an old college buddy.

I’ve never quite understood how people get so hooked on running. It’s never been my forte. That said, running is great exercise and can be a great social activity too. Joining a club of running enthusiasts would be a cool way of meeting new people and doing something active. Dune, even for people who don’t necessarily read scifi. Especially now, with the whole “let’s take care of our planet before it’s too late” discussion. Reading Dune in adulthood had such an impact on me, that I often found myself physically thirsty after each reading session. It also made me more aware of my footprint, made me think about the scarcity of resources, accumulating crap around the house, etc. Great book, great story, great writing style. Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers! Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury. This book is a series of connected short stories about the colonization of Mars. It’s relevant, it’s smart, it’s funny, it was the first time I ever truly enjoyed reading. You’ll wonder why you’re spending so much money to launch yourself out of a plane. You’ll question your decision right up until you’re freefalling at 100mph.Our personal opinion: we let our editors read the book thoroughly and we asked them: does it appeal to you? Think about what you’re passionate about. What brings you joy? See if there’s a way to work in that field! Most people spend about one third of their lives working (with a standard 8 hour day). I think everyone would benefit from living more simply, with fewer things. Make it a goal to regularly declutter your life of unnecessary items. 60.
