The book is also full of suspenseful moments, such as when Jax is threatened by a gang of members and is forced to flee. Jax’s criminal activities bring a source of conflict, putting him into a life-threatening situation. Rival is the second novel in Fall Away series by Penelope Douglas. Even though a second installment, the story can be read as a standalone, the only challenge is that the characters from the previous (first book in the series) play a vital in this book. The story introduces two star-crossed lovers, Madoc and Fallon fighting against the secrets and the pains of the past. Their connection to each other is strong, and their obsession with each other does not end but instead gets stronger each day. They both need each other but will the hate, games, dark pasts, and family connection stop a love that was destined to flourish or will they have to fight for their love beyond themselves? No one behaves the way these people do. Seriously. No one. Can we just have some sensical character development, please? Here’s my best example of crazy town. Once everyone but Damon realizes that Rika is NOT the reason three of the four horsemen ended up in the clink, Michael and Erika settle into the relationship we’re all supposed to be rooting for. They start to make out in a steam room, only to discover that Kai is also in the steam room. So, what’s a girl to do? Personification brings characters and objects to life, emphasizing certain points. It is clear that the author has achieved a great amount of perplexity and burstiness within the novel, making it a powerful and meaningful story.

Fire is a warning of the consequences of taking the wrong path. Dreams and religion are symbols of hope and faith. He looked so alone all the time, and tears lodged in my throat, because we’d all been changed forever. Michael had hated, because he couldn’t take being helpless. Kai had suffered, because his limits had been pushed, I’d gathered. And I had struggled to find out who I was and where I belonged for so long. Dozens of readers have been captivated by Penelope Douglas’ Corrupt, a novel that delves into the complex relationships between family, love, and loyalty. The story follows Kian, the protagonist, as he navigates a world of secrets, lies, and betrayal. The cast of characters are multi-dimensional and full of surprises, making it easy to become emotionally invested in the story. Relationships between the characters are complicated and dynamic, offering an interesting perspective on love and loyalty. The book’s ending leaves readers with a lot of unanswered questions, making it an intriguing read. So, what is Corrupt about? Please know that there will be spoilers galore in this review so if you really think you want to read this book – and I implore you not to waste your time as I will provide, at the end of this review, a list of MUCH better books to read – you have been warned.

Throughout her journey, Rika encounters a series of revelations. She faces betrayals and twists which force her to question everything she thought she knew about the Horsemen and their motivations. She discovers that the situation is far more complicated than she initially believed. It had layers of secrets and deception that extend beyond the surface.Bully is an excellent start to an exciting series. Tate is a strong woman, such that she can put up with Jared and his bullying even though she has no idea of why her once best friend chooses to be so bad for her. Her relief comes when she gets to spend a year in France, away from Jarred and his taunting. However, it reaches a point when she has to stand her ground, which forces Jared to up his game. Throughout the story, Tate not only matures as a character but also as a woman from being the defenseless naïve girl to being a woman who can stand for herself, and her ground. Jared bullying leaves Tate with very few friends, and this causes her at times to be socially inept. However upon realizing herself, Tate blossoms and manages to stand for herself. However, despite all of these obstacles, the characters become closer and their relationship develops as the story progresses. This closeness is driven by their palpable chemistry and their mutual exploration of their feelings for each other. Erika Fane’s boyfriend’s older brother is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than he is with her. But she saw him. She heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid… Overall, Corrupt is an engaging and captivating read that will leave the reader wanting more. Myriad of readers have found the story to be an inspiring and uplifting experience.

Mrs. Douglas is Penelope’s mother, strong and ambitious, determined to give her daughter the best life possible. I let my head fall as I tried to take in air, but I couldn’t stop my chest from damn near convulsing. All I could get were short breaths. Where was Michael? Tears sprang to my eyes, and I held my bottom lip between my teeth to stifle the cry.Yet despite all my objections and the things that still have me scratching my head, I enjoyed Corrupt. Whether you love the characters or hate them—and there are quite a few that fall heavily on the “dislike” side—all the players are fascinating. Penelope Douglas knows how to weave a spellbinding mystery, and this one is particularly addictive. Say what you will, Corrupt is a gripping, erotic, disturbing, all-consuming thrill ride. I have a fairly long list of issues, most of which I can’t state because they are spoilers. However, I will say the book has: She uses powerful metaphors and symbolism to provide a deeper meaning to the story. Numerous symbols, such as darkness, water, and the sun, are used to illustrate the characters’ struggles and the consequences of their decisions. Michael Crist has been the object of every last one of Erika’s adolescent fantasies, but he has always treated her with disdain and indifference, knowing she was meant for his younger brother. Once the popular kid in school, and now a successful professional athlete, Michael has grown from an angry little boy whose father’s constant disapproval made him afraid to stand up for himself, into a man who pursues his dreams unapologetically, living life to the fullest and caring for no one’s opinion but his own. But for the past three years, Michael has lived with regret and anger, blaming the girl he could never have for the fate of his three closest friends. And he is now determined to make her pay for their pain and suffering by playing on the very crush she’s had on him for so long. “She didn’t know that we knew. She didn’t know that we were coming for her.”
