A very enjoyable read, lots of characters to get through. As with all Alex Cross books, there’s plenty of focus on the crimes but equal time is given to Cross and his family, including his best friend John Sampson. The case takes a chilling turn as Cross discovers that two killers, operating in different parts of the country, are working together in a sinister collaboration. These twisted individuals are engaged in a disturbing competition to commit increasingly heinous crimes.

You might imagine a police procedural/thriller would be feeling a little stale to read nowadays but this trope is 100% fresh anytime a new AC novel comes out. James Patterson writes with the confidence of longevity and masterful storytelling. With each subsequent elimination of crooked figures, the media frenzy intensifies, leaving public opinion divided. Is this anonymous marksman a villain or a hero?

I loved the tightly knitted plot, the well thought characters and loved the mystery part that kept me guessing.The Alex Cross novels have been so successful there has also be a film series made. In the films Alex Cross has been played by both Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry. This could be read as a stand-alone book but you’d get more out of it if you’ve been following the series. A leader has fallen, and Alex Cross joins the procession of mourners from Capitol Hill to the White House. Then a sniper’s bullet strikes a target in the heart of D.C. Alex Cross’s wife, Bree Stone, must either solve the case or lose her position as the city’s newly elevated chief of detectives. Alex Cross is the ultimate heroine!!! boy, I have gotten used to bad grammar and apostrophes in the wrong place but this is just too much. Also I think I remember there being used instead of their at the beginning of the revue. Lord help us!! Reply

The suspense is higher now, because there are personal feelings and close friends involved. The crimes hit too close to home, and the author created yet another wonderful characteristic to this complex individual that I already love and feel like he's the perfect hero. His personal family drama is not missing, moreover it adds another layer to this thrilling story. It's not easy to give the best of you at home and at the office, but he's doing it all over and over again. The reader is involved in the lives of the Cross family, their trials and tribulations are felt in minutiae, and this is what makes James Patterson such a master storyteller, particularly when he’s going solo. In this edition we see more of John Sampson and why he’s a good instinctive cop and not just Alex Cross’s shadow. The twists and turns in the book are quite believable and at no point of time seem contrived or ring a false note.
