About this deal

Explain that we are going to visit Australia Zoo in a few weeks and would like some informationto help us plan our visit.

i read this to my son at 16 weeks old he seemed to like it he watched all the way through and loved it when i lifted the flaps. we both enjoyed story time with this book i would reconmend you get it for your baby. My son loves this book! We share this story every bedtime. The wording and illustrations are perfect for toddlers, especially with the little flaps. My son also loves 'Dear Santa' by Rod Campbell which we read all year round! I think Rod Campbell books are a MUST on every baby's/toddlers book shelf. My daughter now knows what's behind each door, so shouts out the answer before I've had chance to open the flap. Good book to read and helps children to learn the different animal names. Borrow from nursery. My nearly 3 year old son wanted me to read it to him every night for the week that we had the book. By the end of the week he was telling me and other family members the story.Luca loves Dear Zoo, especially playing hide and seek with the animals. At only 8 months old, he is already attempting to pull the flaps himself to discover the animals. He likes it when mummy makes the noises of the animals. Definitely one of his favourites and mummy's too. However the Dear Zoo: Noisy book is well nigh perfect. It includes the fun element of flaps, teaches both the names of the animals and how to identify them. It invites questions such as: “How big is the crate?” and “What sort of animal might fit inside there?” It uses language with simple repetition, but also creatively. It has clear, attractive and humorous line drawings in bold colours.

One of our favourites - very simple and repetitive. perfect for toddlers - although I have had to buy several copies over the years as the flaps don't withstand lots and lots of use by unsupervised toddlers and it is important that they are allowed to use the flaps themselves! My son absolutely loves this book, it's the first one points to for us to read. He loves lifting the flaps, he's read it so much we need to get a new one as they are getting a little tatty! My little boy loves this book. He loves lifting the flaps and laughs at my attempt to make animal noises. He's a year old and always grabs for this book. Even as a grown up I love this book as well. A classic I loved as a child and my son loves too. His first jigsaw was based on the book and we have the play-a-sound edition which has broadened the appeal for both of us. My daughter was recently asked what her favourite children's book was and with no hesitation she said "Dear Zoo" which her elder brother had also loved. By the way she is nearly 16 and her brother is now 20 and currently at uni!. As a footnote her much older mother never tired of waiting for her little listener to say "too ....." This is an alphabet book with a difference, in which the unexpected is juxtaposed with the everyday to sometimes surreal effect. This is by far Lucy's favourite books. She is nearly 10 months now but has loved it for months. She LOVES to lift the flaps and see the animals. We have now bought her own copy after borrowing it from the library many times. She has not tired of it even now it's a constant addition to her book collection.

I wrote to the zoo to send me a pet..." (That's a direct quote from the book) and then I'd pull out a different puppet from the box and bring it to life for a few seconds. It was fun to have the parents and talking kids chant the line over and over with me. And it was even more fun to see the children's excitement when a "live" animal came out of the box. Priceless. Simple clauses featuring nouns (zoo)and verbs (wrote, send) e.g.'I wrote to the zoo to send me a pet' This Will the Zoo Send me a Pet Song is set to the music of ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ and is a catchy wee number to sing along to! Nursery rhymes aren’t just a joyful way to pass the time, but can be extremely effective in children’s language acquisition. My little one loves lift the flap books so this is perfect! She loves making animal noises! We also have the Christmas version "Dear Santa" which is a lovely seasonal variation! There are probably a few animals that I've forgotten about, but you get the gist. Each are in a crate/cage/box/basket, and you get to Lift-the-Flaps.

This story is a fun introduction to animals and their characteristics. It is written in the first person, with repetitive sentences. The nature of repetitiveness enables young readers to predict and engage with the story.

I wasn’t sure at first how many I’d be able to find but after asking a few bloggers for assistance I was overwhelmed by the most amazing selection of Dear Zoo activities, I’m sure you’ll love them too. This interactive, lift-the-flap picturebook engages young children’s interest and invites them to take part from beginning to end. This is a classic story which keeps children guessing about what new pet will arrive next in the post, building their interest and enjoyment with each parcel.A simple book, perfect for babies and young children, I cannot wait until we can make lifting the flaps a game, making the book much more exciting and enjoyable for BabyBelle Text-users: students learn that words can describe people, places animals and things. Students produce a text to describe their animal mask. Books for children The Gruffalo activities: Books and activities for children who love The Gruffalo 17/08/2021 Rod Campbell, the creator of preschool favourites including Oh Dear! and Noisy Farm, has been a trusted name in early learning for over forty years, and the classic, Dear Zoo has been a firm favourite with toddlers and parents alike since its first publication in 1982.
