About this deal

Chelsea has been living, barely, a very reclusive life since being the sole survivor of the gruesome murders of her roommates while she was in college. Thankfully she has her lifeline and only friend, Elizabeth to help her cope with the aftereffects and memory loss of the horrifying event. Disturbed is a an addicting psychological thriller that keeps you on the edge of your toes! Man, I will be honest I thought this book was going to leave me disappointed BUT wow... definitely a refreshing and unique twist to this thriller.

I've read several books by this author, and this was another one I really enjoyed. It's a fast-paced psychological thriller, I read it in one sitting. Once again I thought I had everything all figured out, but nope! It's a series of short stories that refer to a fictional play called The King in Yellow that makes its readers go insane. It's extremely creepy and frightening in an usual way. You learn almost nothing about the play, but what you do learn is extremely scary. I think it's also so scary because it was written in 1895." As always, I will endeavor to keep this review spoiler free. I think all books are more enjoyable when you go in as plot-blind as possible, but that’s especially true with murder mystery thrillers. So if it’s not mentioned in the official synopsis, I’ll do my level best to avoid mentioning it here. And holy crap!! That ending!!! Totally mind blown! Nothing is at it seems in this thriller! The twists and turns. I can honestly say, I've never had an author surprise me the way Jennifer Jaynes did.Chelsea receives a note that says those three awful words she so was longing to forget "You made me". It's not over..... who is still tormenting Chelsea? Is it Boyd? Or is something else more sinister at play here? Like many people, I was surprised, even dubious, when I first learned about ACEs and heard that so much of what we experience as adults is so inextricably linked to our childhood experiences. I did not consider myself to be someone who had had Adverse Childhood Experiences. But when I took the ACEs questionnaire and discovered my own ACE Score, my story also began to make so much more sense to me. This science was entirely new, but it also supported old ideas that we have long known to be true: “the child is father of the man.” This research also told me that none of us is alone in our suffering.

This is the ABSOLUTE perfect novel to read right now with Halloween being right around the corner ;). I'm currently reading Haunter By Charlee Jacob, which is extremely graphic and disturbing, going to such limits as describing a demon squeezing a man's digestive system out of his body and eating it. Are there any other gross, extreme horror novels that anyone suggests? A psychotic bureaucrat captures a young art student and holds her captive in the basement of his country house. It's upsetting in the sense that it could very much happen to you, or so it made me think. The despair of one individual against a senseless administrative crushing machine is overwhelming."the description is most DISTURBING books ever written. And I gotta say the bible definitely belongs up there. This isn't about sacrilege. I mean, Have you ever read it? Genuinely disturbing. I'm a fairly desensitized gal, I think. I've seen almost every gore picture out there in the deep bowels of the internet, I read about intestines and brains spilling out of people's bodies and usually just go "lol, cool." On Halloween night five years ago, Chelsea Dutton and her roommates are celebrating their friend Amy's birthday. The night ends with two girls brutally stabbed and murdered to death and Chelsea is found in her bathtub with multiple stab wounds clinging on to her life.... A message is written in the bathroom next to Chelsea's body "YOU MADE ME'' (ugh... can we say creeeepppyyy) A Civil War breaks out over reproductive rights and ends with abortion becoming illegal. However, from ages 13 to 18 parents have the right to dismember their children organ by organ and give them up for donation in a process called “unwinding”. When a friendly Halloween party turned into a blood bath leaving Chelsea as the lone survivor, her life has never been the same. And they never caught the murderer. Is he still out there? Watching? Waiting?

The emotional build up to the last chapter is incredible. I was on the metro when I finished it. I had to get off a stop early to go throw up, not because of gore but just how horrible it made me feel.” – Readers Quote Jason wrote: "My favorite extreme horror novel is SURVIVOR by JF Gonzalez. I also really like Teratologist by Ed lee, Poisoning Eros by White/O'Rourke, and Succulent Prey by White. A violent, psychopathic teenager gets imprisoned for his crimes. He then undergoes an experimental technique that makes him physically incapable of violence.I want to thank NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for this opportunity. Highly recommend all of the author's books. She never disappoints. For fans of James Hankins, Jennifer Hillier, and Lisa Unger.
