Let’s start with the natural formula and watermelon scent. Most setting spray formulas in the market have a lot of alcohol and, therefore, a really strong intoxicating smell. Which makes this one quite pleasant. It’s the - sodium form - cousin of the famous NMF, hyaluronic acid(HA). If HA does not tell you anything we have a super detailed, geeky explanation about it here. The TL; DR version of HA is that it's a huge polymer (big molecule from repeated subunits) found in the skin that acts as a sponge helping the skin to hold onto water, being plump and elastic. HA is famous for its crazy water holding capacity as it can bind up to 1000 times its own weight in water. L-PCA is not only there to hydrate the skin, but it also helps toincrease the efficacy and bioavailability of zinc. An in-vivo (done on real people) testdone by the manufacturer shows that Zinc PCA reduces sebum production statistically significantly after 28 days of application (1% was used in the test), and in-vitro (made in the lab) measurements show that Zinc PCA has strong anti-microbial activity against P. acnes (between 0.1-0.25%) and other bacterial strains. Can you tell a difference between these pictures? Because I surely can’t. My skin looks just as red, just as glossy and just as dewy and hydrated as it does in the picture on the left. So really while this may add a bit of a layer, it really doesn’t do enough to even really call this a primer, nor a serum really. So in case you were planning on relying on this as a skincare product I am not sure this would do enough and if you wanted this to replace base makeupl, then that is alos not going to happen.
