Description

As highlighted earlier, we brewed three cups—each using a different method but the same ingredients. The aim was to determine whether an espresso-style cup brewed with the Fellow Prismo was really different from coffee brewed through the regular or inverted method. So, how did the blind taste go? Wondering if you are doing something wrong? Here’s a few mistakes we’ve made, that make a world of a difference if they are avoided! Most common mistakes with Prismo shot pulling: This method is like method 1, with a slight difference. Secret Method 2 uses a little-known attachment for the AeroPress.

However, from my testing, to achieve that much-loved crema using the Prismo 50ml of water, according to their recipe, is a must. Instead, you tamp the grounds and then apply as much pressure as you can when pressing the coffee. It’s closer to how you would make espresso. Being a coffee drinker from a young age, Marty found an appreciation for espresso coffee as a teen. Recently, he's made it his mission to learn and share as much as he can about the drink he loves.Petrich, I.L. (2020, April 21). Crema: How Its Formed, What It Tells Us, & How To Learn From It. Retrieved from https://perfectdailygrind.com/2020/04/crema-how-its-formed-what-it-tells-us-how-to-learn-from-it/ In my experience, I’ve gotten more “crema” by using a paper filter with the Prismo (including the metal filter), likely because of the extra force (pressure) required to push the water through. However, these are more likely just bubbles and not a true crema.

However, I have discovered 2 secret methods that deliver a delicous crema every time. It’s early days for me though, so plenty of time to refine my skills.Using the Prismo is as easy as using an AeroPress coffee maker – easier in some ways, as you will see. The brewing set-up is nearly identical. Instead of attaching the plastic filter cap and paper filter as standard, screw on the Prismo with its metal filter. As a long-time daily user of the AeroPress, I’m always intrigued by new attachments and accessories that appear in the coffee scene. The painful problem is in the way the AeroPress works. The delicious crema floats at the top. Then, at the end of your press, the ground coffee beans absorb the crema.

Fellow Industries is a San Francisco based company started in 2015 by Jake Miller. They make various coffee related products, with the Prismo being one of them. Valve replacement: Replacing the valve of the Fellow Prismo can be done separately and costs less than replacing the entire unit, typically these need replacing every couple of years, depending on usage and other factors. On the other hand, if the valve in the AeroPress needs replacing, you'll have to replace the whole unit because they currently don't offer a spare valve. It’s also too early to tell with regards to the durability of the Aeropress Valve. Construction: The Flow Control Filter Cap is one piece, while the Prismo has two parts (gasket and metal filter). This means less chance of losing parts and easier maintenance. Bialetti. (n.d.). How the Moka works: lift the lid and discover all its secrets. Retrieved from https://www.bialetti.com/it_en/inspiration/post/how-the-moka-works Personally, I favor clarity (so that means paper filtration), but if you like something else, then by all means go ahead. The Flow Control Filter Cap offers extended, cleaner brewing for both the Aeropress original and GO, compatible with both paper and metal filters. While the Fellow Prismo is a tried and tested attachment for the original AeroPress coffee maker, helping to produce great coffee for a slightly cheaper all in with the metal filter included. When I received my Fellow Prismo, naturally I was eager to try it out. I already love the smooth flavor the AeroPress delivers, so I was anxious to see if this little contraption could improve upon it.
