Something to be aware of is that it makes a lot of noise when you first turn it on– I figured this was because I was indoors surrounded by lots of metals. In the garden, it calmed down. The control box is placed at the top of the handle where your fingers can easily reach the buttons and I was easily able to see the readouts once I’d hit a target. Compared to other metal detectors I’ve seen the buttons are few and simple which is great news for someone that’s easily confused like me.

From what I have researched and seen the Garrett Euro Ace would probably be one of the best choices for the beginner detectorist with a higher budget, or an upgrade from the 150 or 250 machines. On reflection, I think ground balancing isn’t necessary for a kids metal detector or for a beginner either. It’s a nice feature that helps conquer difficult soil conditions, but it’s fiddly and distracting when you just want to spend some relaxing time scanning for Roman treasure troves. Once you find a target you want to dig up, the ACE 250 can help you hone in on the item. It has a built-in pinpointer. This highly sensitive feature gives you a better idea of how deep to dig, which direction to search, and more. It beats having to pay for a standalone pinpointer. These are upgraded from the ACE 150’s tones to include ‘pulse width modulation’ which gives sharper more responsive audio. A low tone indicates low conductivity like iron and a high tone means higher conductivity such as a coin. The ACE 250 is a VLF detector. VLF, or very low frequency, technology is an easy-to-use and good for finding most metals without any issues. Inside that elliptical search coil, there are actually two separate coils. One is a transmitter while the other is a receiver. Unlike the previous models of the Garrett ACE, this new addition lets the user control and fine tune the Iron Discrimination levels.

If you want a machine that is simple to use but has some great pro features then the Euro Ace comes highly recommended from detectorists all over Europe.Put a coin, different types of jewellery and a drinks can on the floor and run your detector over them before heading out. These modes will help no end in your quest for buried treasure. Use them and you WILL find decent targets. Waterproofing It should be noted that the control box is not waterproof. Only the coil is protected. However, that alone will open up a world of possibilities on where you can search. 4. Built-in Pinpointer

Constant signals that yield nothing lead to boredom and a toy metal detector that ends up in the shed, and then the tip. Thanks to the placement of the cuff and control box, the device is relatively easy to handle regardless of your age and fitness levels. As if that weren’t enough, the total weight of the detector is only about 2.7 pounds. The ACE 200 has three buttons. Mode, sensitivity, and power. The power button is pretty obvious – it’s the on-off button. The Ace 150 and 250 sometimes struggled in highly mineralised soils, where as a lot of people have commented that the Euro Ace really excels in these conditions. Pro’s And Con’s Of The Garrett EuroAce There are 8 sensitivity settings from low to high which are controlled with a left to right button pad.In the depth test, the Garrett Ace 150 could pull out targets from approx 6 – 8 inches. However, it is worth noting that this depends on ground conditions as some people have reported having pulled targets with the 150 from deeper. Relics mode is used to discriminate against smaller pieces of iron like nails while retaining the lower end of the conductivity scale keeping good targets such as brass and bronze. On average, metal detectors can penetrate between 6 and 10 inches into the soil. The ACE 250 is no different. However, this model lets you know what you’re in for before you even start digging.

Thanks for the reply. He got it yesterday and it’s perfect for him. The first thing he found buried under or lawn was a spade! That’s from 30 years ago when house was converted. Good find 🙂 The Garrett Ace 150 is lightweight but durable and it does feel very comfortable to hold, it has grip padding and padding on the armrest at the top of the machine as you can see in the pictures. It is a machine you could be out with all day and not feel the strain on your arms, which is great for beginners, children, and the elders. If you’ve previously bought a cheap machine and gotten discouraged by the constant bleeping and nothing to be found Garrett will change your mind. There’s a lot to like about this metal detector. It’s not hard to see why it’s often considered to be one of the best entry-level options on the market. Here are a few features that can make all the difference when you’re searching for hidden treasures. 1. Depth Indicator It also displays the battery level which was very helpful because the Garrett 250 used a good quarter of the battery power over 5 hours. The display also indicates coin depth, the level of sensitivity, and whichever mode you’ve selected. Power buttonNot only does it have premium features and great design that’s used on Garrett’s more expensive models it kept Max entertained for hours. He’s already looking forward to going out again (preferably when it’s warmer!) Simplicity, as usual, is key with the ACE range of detectors, it comes just a few sections, the Control Panel, The upper stem with the elbow rest attached, and the lower stem which attaches to a search coil. As with the Garrett ACE 150 and the Garrett ACE 250 it can be assembled in just a matter of minutes. I tried out the ACE 150 with my ten-year-old who was keen to find some treasure. We found that the pre-set modes were easy to understand and the more advanced bits were interesting enough to keep his attention,
