I think having monsters with special abilities, such as spells, is a natural progression for HeroQuest. There are only so many variations of the monster stats. I think the fear would be that people wouldn’t like two different monsters with the same stats. The minions of Zargon have perished, the Heroes have prevailed this day, though a little charred. Thoughts on the Encounter So far, I really like what I’ve seen from this expansion. Avalon Hill seems to have delivered a really decent product with an interesting story.

At the very least, this means it can cast the spell once every turn. The “At Will” part may be a little confusing. Can this monster cast the spell outside of Zargon’s turn? I don’t think so, but we’ll have to wait to see if this is specified in the Quest Book. The Assasin near the Elf takes a swing and hits the Elf for 2 Body Points. The Magus Guard moves to the other end of the room and casts Tempest on the Barbarian. As a swirling vortex engulfs the Barbarian, the other Assassin takes a chance to hit the Barbarian for 1 Body Point.
