Hine Cognac is a 255-year-old house that is rooted in British culture: its founder was from Dorset; its Cognacs are a favourite with the royal family and some of their vintage Cognacs is aged in the U.K (called early landed). For six generations, the head of the Hine family has worked hard to maintain a high-quality spirit and an incredible heritage. Hine’s Cognacs are considered to be some of the most delicate, fruit-driven and elegant, with the least wood influence. Made in Petite and Grande Champagne, the range offers great variety, from classic expressions to wild cards and bespoke Cognacs. N: Smells sweet and woody [nice oak levels], with the obligatory sweet vanillas. Also there’s oily spearmint chewing gum. Nose: Spicy and peppery, fruity, and very rich, cinnamon, nutmeg, and gentle floral aroma - almost lavender. Hine Antique XO is a blend composed of forty eau-de-vie made with Ugni Blanc grapes that come exclusively from Grande Champagne crus, a particular terroir of limestones and chalk that provide vivacity and finesse to the Cognac. Aged for an average of 22 years, the choice of distillates highlights the fruit and floral notes, bring richness to the blend. The fine grain of the Tronçais oak style offers up ripe fruit flavours, and release hints of walnut, freshly toasted bread and blonde tobacco as is signature of the house. The result is a rich and floral blend with notes of iris and lilac, with vibrant hints of citrus, a sweet body of pastry, and elegant cedar notes. The aromatic persistence goes on and on. Serving SuggestionsI’ve had Remy Martin XO and Hine Antique and, whilst they’re both pleasant, I’d only choose Hennessy XO over a good whisky.
