Ortega met with Leonardo DiCaprio about playing the role of Max after being "impressed" by his audition but he was too busy to take on the role as he was working on What's Eating Gilbert Grape. [12] [13] [14] Rosie O'Donnell was offered the role of Mary Sanderson but she declined as she didn't want to play a mean witch. [15] Filming [ edit ] This was so much fun to read! I am 35, so I think that means Hocus Pocus came out when I was 7. I watched this with my sisters so many times growing up. I could picture the scenes from the movie when I was reading.

Hocus Pocus," "Nightmare Before Christmas" 25th Anniversary Blu-rays announced by Disney for September". Insidethemagic.net. August 20, 2018. Archived from the original on August 21, 2018 . Retrieved August 21, 2018. With intricate patterns and iconic scenes from the film, this book will put a spell on you, keeping you entertained for the next 300 years. This was written by the author who wrote Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel. I didn't realize that until I was halfway through already. It's a decent novelization, almost word for word and scene for scene, except there were a few added parts to give more depth to the characters. A few parts from the movie were missing. The film spawned a franchise, consisting of a sequel novelization, a theme park attraction, a TV special, a short film. A sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, written by Jen D'Angelo and directed by Anne Fletcher, was released on September 30, 2022, on Disney+, with a third film currently in development. [8] Plot [ edit ]

The only added part I didn't like was there was a new name in Winifred's book. If you read Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel, it was the same in that one, too.

I’d give this a 3.5 if I could because it has so much of the movie in it but I wouldn’t say it adds or brings much to the story. It’s essentially the screenplay but with the stage directions and other notes switched for descriptions. The writing is okay but it wouldn’t be a great story independent of the movie. Also, there are some weird lines about Allison and Max that are pretty cheesy and unnecessary, such as the line about him feeling able to conquer the world with her beside him. That and the making out scene with Dani just there was pretty awkward. It was just very “guy gets the girl and everything along with it” and it was awkward how it centered the relationship in the final moments. Realistically this book is a 3 star. The story really doesn’t age well, but I’m giving it 4 stars because I absolutely LOVE the illustrations by Gris Grimly.a b Nolfi, Joey. Ottimo stato. When they say “the illustrated novelization,” they really mean the illustrated novelization. You probably need to have seen the movie at least once to follow the story well, but if you’ve seen the movie enough times, you’ll realize this is essentially a screenplay fluffed into a novel (hence “novelization”). At several points, an editor could have been utilized to clean up portions that were poorly conveyed — things that were written to capture an image from the film (leading to confusion or redundancy in the writing) or oddly placed breaks that only make sense as scene changes on screen (but not so much on paper). Although I am not a raving fan of the film, Hocus Pocus (that accolade would have to go to Labyrinth), when I saw this illustrated version by Gris Grimly, I thought it would be the perfect read leading up to Halloween. And, in a lot of ways, it is. But this book did leave me sitting on the fence a little bit, which is why I have gone down the middle and awarded 3 stars. a b Adalaian, Joseph (October 26, 2017).
