|Now that I'm building up a bit more of a modern designer collection, I'm not sure I'll be keeping this guy in my rotation, but its given me quit literally, like 15 years of off and on solid service, and I commend that. Probably the longest running scent I've had over the years. The floral notes are much more defined in Wave 2 in comparison to the original Wave, which will likely be the point that makes up your mind over if you like or disconnect from this fragrance as everyone's beach locales vary on where you live and everyone has different beach memories; I live in the north of England so don't have lush floral coastlines, and my strongest beach memories are of lotion and fruity drinks. It's nonchalantly good. It's one of those colognes wore by a non-collector. That you ask what are you wearing? And they say "Some Hollister stuff." And you're thinking damn what Hollister stuff smell like that? And you wonder is that person lying to you. 😂 Funny enough the bottle is just labeled Hollister California. So once you disregard the box you could easily forget the name of the stuff.
On its own merits, the scent is excellent for a beach day. It is overworn by the teenage Hollister crowd, so it may associate with a younger audience. However, at 23 I still spray this occasionally during the summer and it gets complements when applied conservatively and allowed to dry down. Very pretty, although a little thin, longevity is not the worst (I can smell it for at least 5-6 hours) but it doesn't smell like a proper perfume no matter how much I spray on, too watered down. I like how I can layer it with matching body spray and use a ton, sometimes that's what I want, but with this one I could spill the entire bottle on myself and it would probably still not be enough. It turns a bit salty after a couple of minutes. Maybe a touch of coconut if you try really, really hard to convince yourself it’s there. This is my shameless "I want to smell like a boy" smell. That's all there is to it. It's very shower gel-y, very bright.This smells very nice and summerish. Actually, the first thing my male friend said was: "oh yummy, this smells like the beach! ". So the name is not totally wrong. Maybe a hint of coconut water and fruit but just a hint. After the first twenty minutes or so it just fades into a floral skin scent, mainly the tiare flower.

To me Socal for men smells clean, citrus, fresh, & sweet musk. An easy, everyday, crowd pleaser forsure. Personally, its so fresh and clean I can see this being unisex as well.
Oooooh noo! To my nose this smells like a bunch of VERY overripe exotic fruits mixed with honey. I can't make out the coconut note from the other loud fruity notes. I'm not getting any flowers in this. It's not like anything else in my collection and it definitely serves the purpose. It's so clean and pretty without being overtly 'girly'. A neutral scent in the best way. The reviewer who described it as the ideal jeans and t-shirt fragrance was spot on.
If you took a jar, mixed in honey, salt water, coconut water, flower nectar, and some fermenting fruits this is what it would smell like. Believe the people who say this has ridiculously short longevity. It’s not just their skin. This won’t last longer on you. It’s unbelievable how it just disappears! Don't get me wrong, I kind of like this scent. However, to me it smells like cardboard and freshly chopped pieces of wood at first. And even the scent is very nice girly-like fresh fruity sweet scent. Not particulary my style but I wouldn't be disappointed if getting it as a gift at all :) nice one! Downsize is that the sillage and performance is very poor! Like others have said, I can also keep spraying, and still, it turns into a skinscent shortly after. Such a shame. SUMMER EDIT: it's still very subtle and a skin scent to me, but I've just found out that the smell of vanillaish candy/caramell I get every time I'm in the car, must be this perfume I sprayed on in the morning. So now I get a base....
I was really impressed with enormous sillage and even better longevity for such a cheap perfume. Like...wow Knowing the target of Hollister, I was not expecting a sophisticated, gourmand fragrance. Yet, it has a special appeal, it smells like other fragrances out there, but it's " hypnotic" in a way, feels clean, masculine, leathery, slightly herbal with a touch of sweetness. It took me by surprise when I realized that this fragrance gets better as it gets closer to the middle notes and dry down. Like a grown up cologne, who knew! I literally don't dislike anything about this fragrance. The longevity, sillage, concentration, and scent are all perfect to me. It's a outstanding sweet men's cologne. The scent opens with a very tropical hit of coconut and melon. There may even be a small hint of citrus in the top notes. As it dries down, I get the deep woody scent of coniferous trees (perhaps pine or spruce) mixed with vanilla sweetness. The basenotes are my favorite aspect of the cologne because the sweetness is balanced by the deep earthy scent of driftwood dried and heated by the summer sun. It lasts relatively long on my skin - about 6-8 hours before it becomes a skin scent.This fragrance is made for a girl with youthful spontaneity and personality. Days spent with her friends mean everything to her, as they plan their fun around the sun. Just a really good fragrance, I'm starting to realize I just love fragrances with this note composition. A musk base cologne. With a generic masculine smell, with a touch of sweetness.
