Description

On first seeing the Philips Hue Gradient Signe online, it looked incredibly slender and minimalist, and believed it would bring a subtle modern touch to my home. Opening the box once it arrived, I was presented with an LED-type rod that secures to a circular base.

Philips Hue Gradient Signe Floor Lamp 1800 lm, 16 Million

The Philips Hue Signe gradient floor lamp is another example of Hue’s great design and smart home savvy, brought to life in a way that can light up any room, either as a standalone device or as part of a chorus of Hue accessories. As you’d expect, the Signe Floor lamp works with all of the Hue scenes, either in the app or the ones that you create. And it will also work with dynamic scenes, too. Add a Hue Bridge (sold separately) to your smart lights to experience the full suite of Philips Hue features. With a Hue Bridge, you can add up to 50 smart lights to control throughout the home, create routines, and control lights while away from home.

If you have a minimalist home with plenty of corners and walls that can benefit from colored, gradiated uplighting, then forget about it – this product is for you. This lets you, say, have the top of the Gradient Signe blue, the middle red, and the bottom yellow, with a nice gradient transition between each color down the length of the light bar. You can also simply select Philips Hue scenes, such as Savannah Sunset, to have the bar display a curated lighting ambiance.

And even though you can only freely set three segments so far, the automatically generated colour gradients display significantly more colours. In my test, I was able to count ten individual colours that can be displayed by the Hue Gradient Signe floor lamp. Connection via Bluetooth resulted in an issue at those times I wanted to switch the lamp on or off outside of an automation, since I had to be within Bluetooth range. In addition, I was also missing out on the full functionalities of the app. For me personally, I think a pair of Gradient Signe's positioned behind my sofa, linked up to a Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box, would be where they'd fit in best physically, as they'd be ideal as powerful mood lighters for movies, TV shows and games. What can we conclude now? The Hue Gradient Signe with its unusual design does not meet all tastes, and it is anything but cheap to buy. Compared to its predecessor, however, it offers much, much more. For me, there is no question that the Philips Hue Gradient Signe is fascinating. Only the thing with the power cable really bothers me.Before I get to the colour gradients, I would like to briefly go over the technical data. The Signe has an overall height of 146 centimetres, 20 centimetres of which are accounted for by the stand. This makes the Gradient Signe 3 centimetres smaller than the old Signe. No really relevant difference, which also applies to the weight: the new model is about 100 grams lighter. As the Signe Floor Lamp has three individually controllable zones, each scene automatically applies to them. To be fair, the app does a good job of choosing the right colours and blending them together. In terms of general maintenance, a dust every so often with a soft microfiber cloth should keep the lamp clean. If you have any issues with LED light source, the small print states that it should be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent or a similar qualified person. The Philips Hue Gradient Signe comes with a two-year warranty and a ten-year lifespan. Philips Hue Gradient Signe table lamp review: App Colour reproduction across the range is excellent. Some cheaper lights struggle with some colours, but not the Philips Hue Gradient Signe Floor Lamp. From red to yellow, and green to blue, this lamp is bright across the range.

Philips Hue Signe Gradient Floor Lamp, 2550 Lumens

Really, though, as anyone who has used/got any sort of Philips Hue lighting will know, this paperwork isn't really needed. To get this lamp working I simply plugged it in, opened the Philips Hue app on my smartphone, and then selected the add new lights option. I much preferred my Go to Sleep routine, which would turn on at 22:00. I loved walking across my landing to see a gentle glow of colored lightcoming from the bedroom.I then created a Zone containing all my regular office lights and the Signe Floor Lamp and used my Hue Tap Dial Switch to control all of the lights and scenes. The Signe’s colors are electric. Again powered by a color wheel, you can choose between one, two, and three colors across the LED strip, making for a limitless combination of choices. This can be done manually, or you can choose from the innumerable scenes in the Hue scene gallery, which are perfect for inspiration if you’re unsure what kind of lights look best. There’s everything from blossom and crocus to sunsets, Miami party vibes, Chinatown red, incredible Arctic Aurora, and more. Even holiday and Halloween scenes get updated throughout the year, and each scene has its own custom level of optimum brightness that you can adjust. You can also tweak the colors yourself for optimum personalization.

My review unit was the Philips Hue Signe table lamp in oak. During the testing period I set routines, explored the beautiful Hue scene gallery, and controlled the intensity of the light. My main quibble was that you can only control the lamp using the app, or by switching it off at the mains; there's no on / off on the unit itself. Read on to discover how I got on elsewhere. Philips Hue Gradient Signe table lamp review: Price and availabilityThe app is where the Philips Hue Gradient Signe comes to life – and it's via the app that you can set up the lamp to your requirements.
