A long preface to say: I came into reading this book without prejudice, but excitement to learn more about why I was experiencing pain in my deliveries when my mom didn't, and to find out what I was doing "wrong." However, the author does tend to show a view of a natural childbirth and says what health care providers do and seems to suggest they shouldn't. Mainly at the end of the book where I think her opinion needs to be toned down as it makes the book less impartial. Also assumes that everyone is breastfeeding. Some things she said raised more questions for me and suggested further reading rather than being supportive and helpful made me worry more.

There are several books on the subject of using hypnosis techniques during birth, each with a slightly different methodology:I've just finished reading this booking in preparation to support my friend who is using hypno-birthing for the birth of her baby in the Summer; we are also attending hypnobirth clases. Hypnobirthing teacher and Founder of The Positive Birth Company, Siobhan Miller’s name pops up again and again on our Mumsnet forums. In her book, Siobhan aims to debunk common myths around hypnobirthing while educating women so they can have more control over their body, resulting in a more positive birthing experience. KATHARINE GRAVES has personally taught over 1,000 mothers and her methods are taught internationally. She is a qualified advanced hypnotherapist and a qualified doula, having trained with Michel Odent, the internationally renowned obstretician. Katharine is a member of the International Advisory Board of the HypnoFertility Foundation of America, the Maternity and Newborn Forum of the Royal Society of Medicine, the Association for the Improvement of Maternity Services, and an associate member of the Royal College of Midwives. She has four grown-up children and five grandchildren. The Hypnobirthing Book is a complete antenatal preparation which guides you to achieve the birth you want. I combined this with classes from a HypnoBirthing practitioner. I am not anti-medicine or a hippy (I eat cows, wear leather, I rarely exercise let alone think of going near a yoga mat). It worked, because it does. There's nothing weird, anti-science or particularly flaky about mind over matter. Sports scientists, CBT therapists, people on diets all know this. Hypnosis is something we do all the time - the Mongan Method simply organises it into a programme for birth and adds that there's simply no point in being scared of birth. Your body knows what it's doing - let it do it, and let someone else worry about the what ifs. Only it's not as simple as that, because we've been told over and over - by the media, by 'helpful' other mothers, by people who heard this awful story once - that everything about birth is bad, bad, bad. So the Mongan Method adds in simple exercises to help remove that narrative and replace it with a positive one.

Here are the best hypnobirthing books 2023. The best hypnobirthing books, audio and apps: at a glance The other good thing about this book is that it can be stand-alone if you want. That is, there is no assumption or expectation that you have attended her course as well. Having said that, you can also buy her CDs, and of course, if you can, attending one of her classes would be good, but if you can't do that, then this book really is still helpful.

As a result of the amazing impact this book and programme had on my daughter's birth (gas and air, not particularly painful), in fact, just today I started a course to teach HB. And guess what? Right next to me was another mum. She had been induced and had a C-section, but was totally convinced of HB's worth. Also around me were many midwives who'd seen it in action and know it can work extremely well. Antenatal classes usually start 8 to 10 weeks before your baby is born, and happen once a week for about 2 hours.
