I am wanting to do some nintendo switch development, but of course I don't have access to their SDK. I thought the next best thing would be a gamepad shell which takes a phone and joycons since they work with android just fine and it is easy to develop for android. I usually play the switch in handheld mode so ideally I want something that looks like that.

For those with larger hands and fingers, the buttons are small and close together. I find this to be more of an issue when using the Joy-Cons with the Joy-Con Strap because of the way your hand has to wrap around the whole controller, and it can be hard finding a comfortable way to sit for long sessions. When the grip is in place or when used in handheld mode, it's a little bit easier to be more accurate because you have more leverage.Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers! Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. The great thing about investing in Joy-Con grips of some kind is that you can use them no matter what Nintendo Switch you're using. Joy-Cons can be paired to the Nintendo Switch Lite and you'll notice in our review that the Nintendo Switch OLED uses the same model Joy-Cons, despite the larger screen size. Your Joy-Cons can be carried between different Nintendo Switch consoles and so can the overwhelming majority of the grips we've listed here. Plus the different color options when it comes to Joy-Cons makes it a fun customization piece for your console. Whether you're in the market for a grip for Switch OLED or the regular Switch, we'd recommend opting for the ZenGrip Pro 3 since it's compatible with both and is available for the same price. Since the grip has a power bank inside, it is heavier than the other grips on this list. The bulkiness that it adds works in its favor when it comes to ergonomics, though. The increased depth combined with rounded handles makes the Switch more comfortable to hold for longer play sessions. As the main draw here is extended playtime, that's certainly a good thing. The Joy-Con grip accessory (model No. HAC-011) included with the Nintendo Switch console allows you to combine both Joy-Con controllers into a more traditional-style controller. Joy-Con controllers contain a nonremovable 525 mAh battery that will last for approximately 20 hours, according to Nintendo. The company notes that the capacity of those batteries — as with all lithium-ion batteries — will degrade over time. Whether the pads are hooked up to a Charging Grip or a Switch, it will take about three and a half hours to charge them from empty to full. I am wondering if anyone else has any experience in these products (or similar) or has any other ideas or products I haven't found?Nintendo Switch grips come in all shapes and sizes. Some are designed exclusively for the regular Switch or Switch OLED, while others, like the stellar Satisfye ZenGrip Pro, are compatible with both models. Naturally, the significantly smaller Switch Lite requires its own separate grip, but there are great options for the handheld-only Switch, too. Because the Charging Grip is physically the same as the grip that comes with the Switch, it feels identical in the hand. This is perfectly fine; the Joy-Con grip already feels comfortable with two Joy-Cons attached, and the Charging Grip offers no discernible difference. It turns the Joy-Cons into a single controller that feels like a conventional gamepad, which is ideal for playing most Switch games. Charging I’ve been PCMag’s home entertainment expert for over 10 years, covering both TVs and everything you might want to connect to them. I’ve reviewed more than a thousand different consumer electronics products including headphones, speakers, TVs, and every major game system and VR headset of the last decade. I’m an ISF-certified TV calibrator and a THX-certified home theater professional, and I’m here to help you understand 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and even 8K (and to reassure you that you don’t need to worry about 8K at all for at least a few more years). A good comfort grip is another essential accessory that goes a long way toward increasing your handheld gaming experience. Your hands will feel less cramped gripping a molded plastic or rubber case, and the Switch will be less likely to fall from your hands. There are plenty of Nintendo Switch grips on the market, so we scoured the internet to determine which ones were best. The Satisfye Nintendo Switch grip has been one of our favorites for some time, and the updated version of it, the ZenGrip Pro 3, is absolutely the one to buy, as this model works for both Switch OLED and the original Switch.

Portrait Mode Grip Accessory for Nintendo Switch- Pintendo Flip, the best way to play Switch games in vertical orientation! Works with OLED! In addition to detachable grips that enhance your experience holding the Joy-Con controllers, there are accessories that completely replace the Joy-Cons while also functioning as ergonomic grips. Our favorite option in 2023 is still Hori's Split Pad, but now there are two different models: the Split Pad Pro and Split Pad Compact. I have found an example of a bluetooth gamepad that is also a phone holder that is close to matching the switch in handheld mode, which might also be an option. This is the closest thing I have found has a phone holder and joycon attachments. However, I usually play the switch handheld instead of using the joycon grip.

Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. Read our editorial mission & see how we test. First, ensure the Nintendo Switch logo and the player LEDs on the Joy-Con grip or Joy-Con charging grip are facing you. To ensure the right and left Joy-Con controllers are positioned properly, align the - Button on the left Joy-Con with the top-left corner of the Joy-Con grip or Joy-Con charging grip. Then align the + Button on the right Joy-Con with the top-right corner of the Joy-Con grip or Joy-Con charging grip. Every Nintendo Switch comes with a Joy-Con Grip, an accessory that holds two Joy-Con controllers in a form factor that resembles a standard gamepad. But that unit won’t charge the Joy-Con devices — for that, you may want to buy a separate peripheral known as the Joy-Con Charging Grip.
