is key to your cooking experience. Learn more about the two fundamental charcoal types and decide which is best for

to cost more than briquettes, but it offers a completely different and unique charcoal grilling experience. Lump charcoal generally gets to higher heats than briquettes, but some options are better suited for high-heat grilling than others. One of the best from our high-heat testing was FOGO's Super Premium lump charcoal. Made from sustainably sourced oak, this gave us a mild smokiness and produced some of the lowest amounts of smoke. The Konnected Joe is the very first Kamado Joe grill to offer built-in digital controls to provide a digitally connected ceramic grilling experience. Light your charcoal with the push of a button and control and monitor you cooks via the Kontrol Board or the Kamado Joe app. The Konnected Joe also offers the standard Kamado Joe innovation with the 2-Tier Divide & Conquer Cooking System, Slide-Out Ash Drawer, Air Lift Hinge and more. The charcoal fit nicely into our chimney, with very little wasted as it caught flame, and the entire chimney lasted for over two hours of cooking. The mid-sized pieces lit easily and burned cleanly, providing a nice hot burn and consistent heat with very little ash, while the smaller ones were handy for starting fires or for adding just a little more wood. Keep your grill in mint condition and protect it from nature's most damaging elements like water, wind and snow with our heavy-duty custom-fitted grill cover. Durable and waterproof, this cover limits fading and sun damage using UV resistant technology. Keep Mother nature out and your grill protected all year long. Be sure the ashes are completely burnt out before discarding in refuse bin away from children & animals The high searing heat was great for conduction while cooking lamb chops and kebabs. Both of these were fast cooks, and the heat from the grill helped them stay juicy and tender. With fully open top and bottom vents, I had no problem cooking pizzas that had perfectly cooked bottoms and a blistery top with melty cheese. Made for those who are ready to elevate their grill game with enough cooking space for a feast, the Big Joe II grill includes built-in features that will bring efficiency and convenience to your charcoal grilling experience. With features such as our 2-tier Divide & Conquer® Flexible Cooking System, Kontrol Tower® Top Vent and Air Lift™ Hinge, discover new ways to fire it up and control your cooks with ease with the Big Joe II grill.

Each species of hardwood lump charcoal burns at different temperatures. For example, apple burns at 1190 degrees, while maple burns at 1200. This means you'll have to vent your fire differently depending on the makeup of your charcoal, so take this into account. Our charcoal lit easily, and stayed a nice consistent temperature throughout our grilling session. It didn't pop a single time during our testing, so it's a bit safer and less dramatic to light and use. With an eye-catching beautiful red-colored exterior and thoughtfully designed metal side shelves with hooks for tools, the Kamado Joe Classic III Grill is a joy to behold. Accessories: Everything you need to get goingWhen you’re buying lump charcoal, look for brands that prominently contain 100 percent hardwoods," says Paul Sidoriak, the grilling expert behind Grilling Montana. "The pieces should be between the size of a golf ball and a tennis ball, and you want to avoid brands where the bags contain lots of charcoal dust and pea-sized pieces, as they can hinder airflow." Lump charcoal tends to burn hotter and faster than charcoal briquettes, but the exact burn time will vary depending on how you're cooking. On an open grill, you'll likely get around 45 minutes to an hour of burn time with lump charcoal, but the fuel may last significantly longer in a closed smoker.
