About this deal

Lay Down Daddy Games was conceived in 2013 when Neptune Blue’s CEO Jim Manduca had two young boys running around at home. At the time, Jim was working as the Film, and 3D animation Director at Fuel Industries and the position required many long days and nights. Upon coming home, Jim would head straight to the living room floor and call the kids over. The activities soon came to be called “Lay Down Daddy Games.” It was a fun name to say, and for Jim, it meant Daddy was just another play structure that you layout on the floor. For his boys, it was a just, “Lay Down Daddy!” Last Christmas, my wife bought me a book titled, “Lay Down Daddy Games” by Jim Manduca. Upon opening the present, I immediately burst out laughing. The description of the book was, “25 easy to do activities with the kids when you just don’t feel like getting up”. Wrestling– we love a little wrestling and it is a great way to try and get a little energy flowing so that you feel more like getting up! Set some clear rules…ours is that if someone says ‘pause game’ we all stop.

Manicure– I loved doing this as a kid but perhaps it was just me as my kids would not be up for it. If yours would then set up a manicure station…lotion, nail file and varnish! Duvet den– a particular favourite of mine because it seems to entertain our boys for so long with minimal effort from me! Lie in bed and use your knees to hold the duvet up to make a ‘cave’. You can be dragons, badgers, explorers. If you fancy doing a little ab work then you can mix it up a little! Hairdresser– you might need to sit up for this one but let them play with your hair. N.B. only let them loose with a soft hairbrush. Fetch– throw a teddy for your child to go get and return to you. Repeat for as long as you can get away with.

Lots of parents cannot afford to buy the latest toys or items and are made to feel guilty for not being able to do so. I think this is both unnecessary and wrong. In my experience, when my daughter has been given a choice of playing with a toy or playing with me, I win 9 times out of 10. Therefore, don’t feel guilty if you don’t have all the latest toys, the best toy they have is you! In what is a fun and useful suggestion book for different games we can play with our children, I think it also highlights a much bigger point. There can be so much pressure applied to parents, whether it be from advertisements or even other parents, to buy lots of different toys, items or equipment. Usually with the suggestion that this is all important for your child’s development.
