About this deal

I don't have a gas grill or a propane tank, and my egg is about 6 feet from an outlet, so the electric version seems reasonable. Your hungry guests can’t wait forever for you to light your grill. In such desperate moments, the Looftlighter Electric Lighter could save the day. Safer options include propane torches and electric starters. Some models direct a flame and even blow air onto the charcoal from above, and others are placed at the bottom of the charcoal to get a flame going. To speed up the process, just move to another section of your charcoal pile. You’ll probably be totally ready to cook in about 5 minutes, depending on how much charcoal you’re using.

There is no denying that charcoal grills are big on flavor, but lighting them can be a real headache. Of course, you can use lighter fluid, but that can distort the taste of your food and even endanger your health. A single charge is designed to last 10 uses, and it probably does, but I tend to charge it every 5-6 uses to make sure I have power on hand when I need it.

Power cord is only 10 feet in length, so will likely need to run an extension lead out to your charcoal grill or smoker It’s not as fancy as the more expensive options. But, the build quality is still very respectable and it lights lump in a similar 5 minute time frame.

The easiest way to light a charcoal grill is to fill a chimney with charcoal, put flammable material under the chimney grate, and light the material, letting the flames rise through the chimney to ignite the charcoal. This technique is effective with lump charcoal or briquettes that haven’t been pretreated with a match-light activator. Crumpled newspaper, dryer lint, kindling, and commercially made starters are all flammable options that you can light with a match or long-nose lighter. Yet, most of the complaints I read were about just that - that the heat shield meted exposing the heater.

You can adjust the flame up to 1,300 degrees for faster results without worrying about depleting the gas. The torch will light your charcoal in a matter of seconds, and the 14 oz. can is sufficient for up to 100 starts. And with JJ George gas lighters, you don’t have to blow air on your charcoal before lighting them, meaning sparking is kept at a minimum. Since the pressure in the torch is regulated, it allows the flame to burn in all directions. Therefore, it will produce consistent performance even when inverted. That makes it the perfect tool for lighting a charcoal grill effectively and evenly.
