She calculated the actual production costs and developed realistic combinations of possible components; if we want X number of cards, we need to cut out Y pieces of cardboard. Settling on components was one of the hardest challenges and was something constantly being tweaked along the way as we understood what each Chapter needed versus what we wanted.

There’s nothing outright innovative about this as a board game design, but it’s a clever distillation of the many narrative heavy campaign games currently dominating the board game market. But it accomplishes this with an approachable ruleset that nearly anyone can immediately understand.DECIPHER ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR ONLINE VERSION OF THE LORD OF THE RINGS™ TRADING CARD GAME". But if you come to rely on The One Ring, you'll increasingly suffer consequences up to losing the whole campaign. It's potentially our widest departure from the source material, but really immerses the players in the weight of their task. You're faced with holding and managing The One Ring cards to avoid corruption, all while they're absolutely begging you to use them. We had a ton of fun coming up with specific things The One Ring would do in each chapter, and it ended up being my favorite thing in the whole game.

Ravensburger announces new Lord of the Rings game

J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy is epic, so capturing it across eight chapters came as a challenge. Ravensburger Game Development Manager Shanon Lyon told Nerdist, “We started by having one of our designers, Jay Little, sketch out the beats of the book, looking for the moments fans would expect and want to see and the ones we’d need to make it feel cohesive so that players really feel like they’re playing through the story. Chapter 8 was one of the most difficult in terms of design. In the movies, there is so much going on. Our designer, Marcus Ross put a lot of hard work into making sure the chapter evokes the same feeling but also makes sense mechanically and narratively.” Gamer Network Limited, Gateway House, 28 The Quadrant, Richmond, Surrey, TW9 1DN, United Kingdom, registered under company number 03882481. Following the route of the story via the 8 chapters is good fun. Each chapter has the locations, characters and events you would expect to see.
