About this deal

What a wonderful, heart-warming, beautifully emotional story by Ruth Jones of 4 generations, trying to navigate their own lives and their relationships with others and each other. Ruth Jones’ novel “Us Three” is a beautiful novel that is an exploration of the glue that keeps women together in lifelong friendships. Catrin, Judith, and Lana make their home in a small town in Wales and could not be better friends. Grace is about to turn ninety. She doesn't want parties or presents or fuss. She just wants to heal the family rift that's been breaking her heart for decades. All across the USA, people are showing up dead. The deaths don't appear to be connected in any way until one particular death occurs and gets the Secretary of Defense's attention. He arranges for a task force to investigate. Rich in warm, engaging characters and a judicious mix of humour and pathos... it's a compassionate, wise and life-affirming book * The Observer *

Love, mess, secrets; this story of four generations of women is shot through with Ruth Jones's warmth and wisdom. A big warm blanket of a book. I loved it - Jojo Moyes This book looks at multi generation female relationships and familial ties as well as what bonds and binds mothers and daughters. Told from different points of view, this book is measured as it builds on all the past and present frustrations that all the characters have. It shows how complicated and complex any relationship can be, but also how wonderful and uplifting even in the darkest moments that the maternal bond gives you. Grace is eighty-nine, she’s proud and independent and enjoys an early morning swim in the sea, no matter what the weather. This is a story of mother and daughter relationships, a bitter sweet tale that tells of heartbreaks, joy and forgiveness. Grace doesn’t like a lot of fuss, so a surprise party to celebrate her reaching ninety is not going to be well received. What she does want is for the heartache caused by family rifts to be healed. Rifts that have gone on far too long over decades. But to do that she must find her daughter Alys - the only person who can help to put things right. And when she finds her - if she does - she risks betraying granddaughter Elin. Who is far less forgiving of the past, with its hurts and secrets and lies. Ruth Jones: Yes, I like that. I really do. I’m glad that it comes across; I do try, and it makes me feel better about life when I write in that way. I think there’s enough nastiness in the world as it is, and I don’t want to add to it! So yes, my writing is pretty gentle, I guess. I tend not to have villains, and I still believe in the whole thing that there is a little bit of good in the worst of us and a little bit of bad in the best of us. I must be very careful about spoilers in this delicious novel revolving around this family so full of resentment, long-held anger, prodigal daughters, and cold-water swimming. When I started the book, I wasn’t that sure about the characters as Grace is easy to understand and love, however, the same can’t be said for her granddaughter, beautifully portrayed as a Head Teacher, following in her grandfather’s footsteps, whereas her daughter hates school and the tension between the two is palpable.

Love, mess, secrets; this story of four generations of women is shot through with Ruth Jones's warmth and wisdom.' JOJO MOYES After she was cast in Saxondale as Steve Coogan’s wife, she teamed up with James and together they wrote and starred in Gavin and Stacey the Bafta Award-winning work. Rob Brydon her old friend for years who also worked as a comedian starred in the work. I really enjoy reading Ruth Jones novels, they make such a refreshing change from the gritty thrillers I also enjoy. Her novels are full of wonderful characters and the stories so well written, much in the same vein as Graham Norton. i really savoured this one, the four generations of women had such a special story. such well developed characters. Love Untold is the first book I’ve read by Ruth Jones, but after loving it I’ve added her others to my (ever-growing) list. The talented Welsh performer would then decide to get into costume drama in 2008 as she worked on “Litle Dorrit and “Tess of The D’Urbervilles.

Grace is about to turn ninety and she doesn't want parties or presents or fuss. She just wants a quiet celebration: her daily swim in the sea and a cup of tea with granddaughter Elin and great-granddaughter Beca. More than anything, she wants to heal the family rift that's been breaking her heart for decades.Elin Matthews (married to Greg) is Grace’s granddaughter. She is the Head Teacher of St Stephen’s High and mother to Beca. The ending took me totally by surprise and I had to read the last couple of chapters twice because my eyes leaked (I sobbed) and the print blurred. It's a great read, refreshingly free of stereotypes, as we follow events in the lives of the four women in the run-up to Grace's ninetieth birthday. I loved the characters of Grace and Beca in particular. I did guess the Cissie reveal in advance, though. A wonderfully told story following 4 generations of Welsh women, with complex characters, complicated relationships and a glorious and beautiful ending.

This combination made for a BAFTA award-winning comedy that would soon become one of the biggest shows in the United Kingdom right behind Little Britain. For the first time Stacey, Gavin, and their friends go on a journey from Billericay to Barry.Next granddaughter Elin. The most serious of the four. The prime and proper headteacher whose daughter fails all but two exams and a husband who runs to play hippie. The affair of Greg I find slightly daft. Due to how much I liked them as a partnership. Can they pretend it never happened? Even the ever serious can have the breakdown the biggest of one. Especially with her estranged mum. Sometimes hard to like making her evermore a brilliant character. Love, mess, secrets; this story of four generations of women is filled with Ruth Jones’s warmth and wisdom.’ JOJO MOYES
