Description

Presenting a historically authentic rendition of the 1960s, Mad Men provides insight into the developing social mood of the United States throughout this time period. Presenting an ego-driven world of clashing personalities, there is a whole assortment of dramatisation and well-acted scenes for you to sink your teeth into. An award-winning sensation Every stitch and and imperfection can be seen clearly. Closeups reveal every individual hair, bead of sweat, and fancy makeup blemish nicely. Wider shots also look excellent too, as the image never goes soft. Colors are bold and bright, simply popping off screen with vast array of those iconic 60s/70's color schemes. It's really a joy to watch whether the characters are in an interior office setting or outside by the beach. It's simply marvelous.

Mad Men' is one of the best television shows to ever be released. It's attention to period details, the amazing characters, the writing, the music, the whiskey, the cigarettes, all of the retro set pieces, truly showed what a milestone in television 'Mad Men' is. These final seven episodes arenot to be missed. For those of you who live in some kind of subterranean lair (or reside in an orbiting space shuttle), let me recap the basics of AMC’s award-winning series ‘Mad Men:’ The show takes place in the early 1960’s in an ad agency in New York. Our main character is creative director Don Draper (Jon Hamm). Draper has a beautiful wife (January Jones), a couple of cute little kids, and a kind of wizardly ability to come up with the perfect way to sell a product, no matter how bland it may be. Following the escapades of the Sterling Cooper advertising agency, join the womanising, hard-drinking, chain-smoking Don Draper (played by the charismatic Jon Hamm), and immerse yourself in his life both personal and professional as you discover the ruthless competitiveness of this dog-eat-dog business world. This award-winning show was pure class from start to finish and if you haven't seen it yet, now's your chance. The series finale, which has been widely discussed almost as much as the finale of ' The Sopranos', leaves us with an image of Don Draper that seems to tell us that this character has been met with as much success as he's had failures, but he has finally found his place in the world, and who he really is, which is followed by one of the most famous ads to ever come out. There have been a ton of theories on how fans and critics should interpret this, but I'm guessing that the true fans of the show know the true outcome, which is a good one.Laurel Canyon (HD, 3 Mins.) - Things are focused on the hippie movement and certain place in California, where some of the show took place this season. Less bombastic but still quite good is the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix. (This is the set’s only audio option, by the way.) Mad Men has garnered intense critical acclaim, becoming a multi-award-winning series and sustaining a massive 7 seasons across its time on air. With its impressive collection of Emmys and Golden Globes, this incredible show has cemented its place as one of the all-time greats of the late 2000s, alongside such hits as Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead - a bold but supported claim. Mad Men’ is a dialogue heavy show, for sure, so most of the action is in the front, with little use for the more dynamic surround sound elements we all clamor for. (The rear channels mostly handle the score and finely chosen songs.) But this is okay when the dialogue is reproduced as crisply and clearly as it is here. Occasionally other channels get used, and generally the effect is one of subtle immersion – you feel as though you’re just down the hall from the steno pool. It was a perfect send off for this character as Don was always mysterious to us, and still remains a mystery in those final moments in the commune on the mountain, but it was in those final moments where we finally see the real Don Draper. As for the rest of the excellent cast of characters who we have followed through the years, we get to see them push forward in their lives with a slight amount of joy and goodness, which if any of you have seen the show, was not always the case.

All the extras presented on this set are also on the DVD version. Thankfully, there are a whole bunch (and here they’re in sparkly HD). Season One - Audio Commentaries, Advertising the American Dream, Scoring Mad Men, Mad Men Music Sampler, Pictures of Elegance, Establishing Mad Men and Mad Men Season Two Preview. All 92 episodes of the period drama series, set in a prestigious advertising agency in 1960s New York, where sexism is a way of life and everyone smokes like a chimney. In this highly competitive, all white, male-dominated environment, the indefatigable Don Draper is the top ad executive, but there are plenty of young guns eager to topple him from his perch. If your last experiences of Mad Men were the closing episodes of the final series – with Don Draper making like Kerouac to the west coast – then to revisit the series at its very beginning, in the smoky cool of 1960 New York, is to land with the judder of a Mohawk touching down at Idlewild airport. This isn’t just a different decade; it might as well have been a different century. Still, ‘Mad Men’ works overwhelmingly well as a remarkably-detailed period drama, a fascinating glimpse into the birth of modern corporate culture, and a tragic study of manipulation and greed. I can’t guarantee everyone in TV land will enjoy its slow pace and niche subject matter, but I can definitely say it deserves all the attention and accolades it has received over the last year.Generation Boom: Baby Boomers (HD, 26 Mins.) - This feature discusses the style and life of the baby boomer generation.

It’s not a completely unfair criticism. Rewatching, you wonder how many times Draper can fall in love, break hearts (including his own) and then turn around and do it all over again. But both of the marriages he trashes over the seven series tell important stories. His first, to anthropology-student-turned-model-turned-anxious-housewife Betty is one of male power and the latent tension of late 1950s/early 1960s suburbia. The other – to Québécois secretary-turned-actor Megan – slowly, painfully shows a redress in power, as she gradually outgrows their uneven relationship (while the world surrounding Draper does the same). Season Four - Audio Commentaries, Marketing the Mustang: An American Icon, Divorce: Circa 1960 Part 1, Divorce: Circa 1960 Part 2, How to Succeed in Business Draper Style and 1964 Presidential Campaign. The Writers Guild of America has announced its 2016 nominations. Typically, the winners are also successful at the Academy Awards. The winners will be revealed on Saturday, February 13, during simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York City.
