The book also makes use of irony or jokes, for example, when Adam sees the tree of good and evil in the Garden of Eden and his response is “Cool!” [17] Noah later loses count of the animals heading to the ark, when he is up to 11,344, so he has to start all over again. [18] Reception [ edit ] Siku is a rare find - an incredibly talented individual who works in a very demanding industry and still manages to have a fantastic sense of humour. He has a tireless approach to his work and always strives to delivery what the client wants. His breadth and ability as an artist seems never-ending. He creates breath taking, imaginative imagery, but his true strength is in telling a great story.

I'm from Turkey. I wish they would do the same for the Koran, make it more friendly and easy to read with lots of photos. From the creation of the earth to the ultimate showdown between the forces of good and evil, this is the greatest story every told…as you’ve never seen it before. MacWilliam, Mark (ed.). Japanese Visual Culture: Exploration in the World of Manga and Amime. Armonk, N.Y.: M.E. Sharpe, 2008. ISBN 978-0-7656-1601-2

In my review of The Life of Jesus I pointed out that everyone in the book looked Anglo-Caucasian. In this book everyone is lanky and looks like X-generation fantasies. Despite its plethora of action and epic stories, it seems that the Bible doesn't translate very well to the graphic novel format. The Next Manga (Japanese stylized comics) series is a vibrant, faithful look at Bible stories that provide a fresh and unique viewpoint in which to be immersed in and engaged by God's love and redemption for His people. It also does a beautiful job pointing to the source of those stories - God's word. I know for me, it's been a great way to reorient myself to well known stories in a fresh way. I'm sorry Sharon, Croydon thinks it is sacrilege. I'm a Methodist preacher and am very happy for the Bible to be presented in any way that enhances interest and understanding. I think God has a sense of humour, too.

Manga Messiah begins with the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies through the birth of Yeshua. It then follows his early childhood, his growth into adulthood and subsequent ministry to the people. The story ends with his betrayal, crucifixion and eventual victory over death. To encapsulate the entire Bible in one volume of manga is a little too ambitious. The Genesis narrative was easy to follow and had enough characters to follow that it was pleasant. After Moses though, there's basically a ton of summary of all the kings and stuff. And it seems like the point of putting the Bible in visual form is that you shouldn't be summarizing a ton of stuff, but rather showing what's going on.As I'm an artist as well as a Christian, I like them. One of our Sunday school kids has a manga bible. I've also bought a version of the Graphic bible. People are more likely to read a glossy magazine format, than something too wordy. As long as general doctrine isn't compromised. I also enjoyed about the way angels helped the Apostles in times of need. How I wish God still use this to release political prisoners and those in prison who are innocent of the crimes they are blamed for. I particularly liked the ending. We all know that most of the Apostles died as martyrs but it's good that the book did not detail their gruesome deaths. Instead, it showed how St. Paul became an old man and died at 63 years of age.

But how successful these versions are at doing that is another question. The makers of the Bible Illuminated claim it has increased sales of Bibles by 50% in Sweden - though we are not told over what timescale. A version that could achieve such figures in the UK would be one of the most surprising Bibles yet.Two brothers, Siku and Akin, combined their love for the Gospel and forJapanese animation ( anime)to collaborate on" The Manga Bible." While Siku illustratedand modernized Bible characters such as Eve, Moses, and Jesus, Akinwrote and modernized the dialogue spoken by the characters. "The Manga Bible" transforms what you know about the Bible into something clever, edgy, and unique. There are also several examples where contemporary ideas come in. In the Book of Job, Job asks himself, how he could have deserved his faith, when a bomb labeled “Fat Man” hits his house. [16] Siku also includes maps in the Old Testament for example to show the journey of the Exodus. In the New Testament Jesus is tempted by the devil, who promises him the power over the world represented by contemporary New York and parts of other modern cities. The Bible is such a lively book! Of course there is nothing wrong with 'translating' the Bible for different sub-cultures... this is after all what Christians have always done. It is just now we can add a glossy finish :o) No matter how you present it in the end and to who the message is still the same and will never change; its always relevant! This less-than-reverent online version by Brendan Powell Smith tells stories from the Bible using Lego. It started life in 2001 with stories from Genesis and today contains 391 stories with 4,214 illustrations. Though it is sometimes satirical or tongue-in-cheek, it is often used by churches and Sunday schools, and it's one of the versions that the Bible Society has welcomed as connecting people with the Bible in a new way. For the most part The Manga Bible: from Genesis to Revelation stayed true to the source and the illustrations by Siku was amazing. There were some liberties in text and art that were used, but nothing that really took away the message – the spirit of the text remains true, if not the letter. I really liked that every story has the corresponding text from The Bible that one could research further if they chose to do so. In short, it is a good tool in introducing people – particularly the young, into The Bible.
