About this deal

I better idea might be to use the best pen for the job in each area of art. You might wish to create a smudge in one area whilst avoiding smudges in another. Each artist will develop a range of different pens which they use within the portfolio of art which they produce. The Sakura Pigma Micron Fineliner Pen is a joy to use for sketching. It really does feel nice on the paper as the ink is very smooth and flows effortlessly. It has great precision creating neat lines. I would say that this is one of my favourite fineliners to use, however I am rather heavy handed and over time the nib wears out.

They are fantastic for a number of different reasons. Waterproof & Archival Ink The second ink test is Daler Rowney FW Ink. This is an acrylic-based ink and we are using Lemon Yellow. Again, I have I’ve drawn a series of different marks with the fineliners and gone over them with the ink.

I’m sorry that your pen wasn’t working smoothly! I recently had a similar issue with a different brand of pen and I was so bummed. I was able to get it flowing again by filling up a glass with hot water, setting the uncapped pen nib side down in the glass, and letting it sit there for 10+ minutes. After it sat in the water, I pulled it out and let it be for a few hours, and when I tried again, it worked. For this test we are looking at how well the fineliners work with watercolour paints. I am using Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolour Paints. Again, I have chosen a nice bright lemon yellow hue colour to see the results easily. For this test we are looking at how well the fineliners work with alcohol markers. I am using a Winsor & Newton ProMarker Brush Pen. So that the smudging can be seen easily, I have chosen an amber coloured pen to use with the fineliners. I’ve drawn a series of different marks with fineliners and gone over the top of them with the ProMarker. In the fourth test, I put the coloured marker down first and drew over the top in the fineliners to see how that compared If you want more tip options, try the oil-based Pilot Drawing Pen. Its 005 tip size opens up even tiny items for signatures. It dispenses rich ink that writes on almost anything, including glass, metal, plastic, and cloth. The Pilot Drawing Pen is also available in a standard water-based version that resists drying out.The best advice I have for keeping your pen from drying out again is to either store it nib side down in a cup or flat in a drawer, but never nib side up! That will make the ink settle away from the nib and contribute to it drying out faster. And yes, my Sakura microns work great with watercolors! However, I always recommend you do a test sheet to give it a try before committing to a full project just to be safe. Most fineliners come in several tip sizes that may range from a super-fine 0.03 mm to a bold 1 mm. This gives artists the flexibility to render meticulous detail and graphic punch depending on their needs. Other fineliners have less precise sizing, such as XS, S, F, and M, or come only in one or two sizes. These are suitable for art that doesn’t require as many different line widths as well as writing and journaling. Some lines also include larger bullet-tipped markers or brush pens filled with the same ink as the fineliners. What Are Winsor And Newton Drawing Inks Why are Winsor & Newton Drawing Inks so popular with Illustrators & Students? Find out here! I must admit that I have never seen such a comprehensive testing and review of fine liner pens. Whilst I suppose it is natural to often reach for the favourite pen you use most, but this will depend on the type of drawing you do most.

The Staedtler Pigment Liner is winning here, with 11 different nib sizes available. It comes in a broad 1.2 nib as well as an excellent selection of smaller sizes. The Uni-Pin and Pigma Micron Fineliners have the smallest nib size at 0.03. It gives you good precision, but you do have to be careful not to press too hard as it is very delicate. I’ve found the 0.1 nib size holds up much better over time.

My least favourite to use was the Derwent Line Marker fineliners. It’s a good pen if you work in more technical way, but not so great for my drawing style or the way I hold a pen. The one that surprised me the most was the Stabilo Point 88 Fineliner. The truth is I would normally dismiss this pen as a cheap children’s pen, but it really did well in most of the tests and gave the others a good run. The colour range is excellent, and I will definitely be using these again when I want to introduce colour to my drawings. I would appreciate if you could share some tips on how to avoid clogging. Eventually, I went to college and stopped doing art for years. I never got rid of my art supplies because I desperately wanted to do art more and I couldn’t afford new supplies as a broke college kid. Years later, when I started bullet journaling again, I pulled my Microns out of storage. They once again became my steady favorites, even after years without use. Little did I know that these old favorites would be an important part of my journey towards becoming a professional artist. Where to Find Sakura Pigma Micron Pens
