About this deal

Let us look a bit at what a good lamp for painting minis actually needs to do. 1. The colour of the white light needs to show the actual colours of the model (it should throw a white light in the Kelvin 5000 range with good CRI) Recommended lights for painting accurately have a color temperaturethat falls within the daylight range (5000 – 6500K or Kelvin) and provides sufficient diffuse illumination to prevent eye strain, e.g., squinting, and hard-shadowing. The LEDs are housed in a lamp that is about 23″ wide. The swing arm has a total length of 32″, which is adjustable at 3 pivot points. The width of the lamp is useful for providing useful, high contrast on your working surface. Contrast often suffers when a light is too bright and focused in one spot. The diffuse nature of the Neatfi light source helps maintain contrast. Some architect lamps let you adjust the amount of light they put out. If you prefer different levels for different tasks, look for one with a dimmable feature. Some let you choose between three or four different light settings.

Neatfi (New Model) XL 2,500 Lumens LED Task Lamp with Clamp

There are four brightness settings for the Neatfi XL task lamp. It can be set to 25%, 50%, 75% and full 100% brightness. For most hobby work, I’ve been using my light at 100% brightness. I get the most contrast and visual detail at this setting. I want to cut right to the chase, I think the Redgrass R9 Desk Lamp is the best lamp for miniatures you can get right now for miniature painting. A few things make this outstanding: 1. It produces bright natural light over a broad area and the light is very flexible In all these categories for an ideal desk lamp for miniature painting and model work, the Neatfi XL is amazing. The Neatfi XL 2,200 has been my go-to lamp for quite some time. I am super fond of it because I have used it for many years. I have an older version known as the Lightcraft LED Pro, but the Neatfi 2,200 was a small iteration of that desk lamp. Now it can be hard to get the 2,200 and the price difference between that and the Neatfi Xl 2,500 Lumens is so small, it is not worth the bother. Just get the Neatfi 2,500.

When painting miniatures with poor light, it will distort the colours of your miniatures. This is because it either casts a too-blue light or too-yellow tone from the bulb, giving everything a tinge of that colour. It will also have a bad CRI, meaning that it will not accurately reflect the actual colours and tones of the paint you are working with. It’s so much lighter so I never have to worry about it possibly falling on a client, it’s sleek and doesn’t take up so much room and the magnification is better. Oh! And the dimming option is great, it’s more light brightening. It starts at the normal light level and you can turn it up 4-5 more notches.

Without good light you can’t see anything, properly. When it comes to focusing on what’s important, placing emphasis on good light is the key to enjoying whatever activity you’re doing.

The best light for painting miniatures will be light in the color range of about 5000. This produces a good natural white light that will reflect how the miniature will look in normal daylight. A CRI of 80 is normal, but not really that great. You need to get up in the 95+ range for this to be fun. 2. The light needs to decrease the amount of shadow on your miniature Just looking at these photos you can easily realize how the situation has changed considerably, at least for the ease of directing the light where I want. In fact, the main problem of the previous lighting was the static nature of the neon lamp fixed under the shelf. It was inclined with respect to the work surface, creating sharp shadows and difficult to remove as it was fixed to the shelf. The BenQ e-Reading Lamp is a weird one. I like it for a lot of things, but have ended up not using it much for miniatures. I simply have better options on hand. The BenQ lamp This lamp is the only lamp seriously designed for Miniature Painting and hobbies like it. And it shows. You can read more about what I think about the BenQ WiT e-reading Lamp in my review. The short version is: I like the lamp, hate the foot and hate the electronic elements (which makes me nervous of long term durability).
