Sounds ideal for toasting the steerer, especially as they do heat fast, the Epping takes quite a while to get going.

If you're looking for a small stove for recreational use, and don't need high output or long burn times, the Pipsqueak might be a good candidate. It seems its a lot easier to buy an ordinary stove due to the odd flue size and rear flue. Would of been costly to weld up the bends needed to bring the flue away from the cabin walls. The pipsqueak can crank out some heat, but since it's difficult to control with the built-in air controls, we wouldn't consider it a high performing stove. While it's built around Dan's passion for chainsaws, wood stoves, fireplaces, axes, and so on, Naomi also contributes her many skills to make it all come together. With a name like ‘Pipsqueak,’ no one is ever too surprised when they see just how small it is. It is specially designed for heating small spaces, such as boats and small cabins, with an area under 300 square feet. We installed a pipsqueak on our boat ( 3 boats ago) It was only a 30 footer so we took out a wardrobe and put it in there. It’s easy to use, but some people do have trouble maximizing the amount of heat they get out of it without it chewing through a lot of wood. That also becomes annoying simply because you’re feeding wood into it constantly. https://castironstove biz/2018/10/20/antique-cast-iron-stove-thatcher-furnace-co-no-88-coal-wood-kitchen-cooking/

Windy Smithy also makes some beautiful little burners (no relation or commission!) which I use in my Bell Tent, they cost more but can be closed down and stay lit all night which is an important feature in winter. I did look at the Davey hot pot & noted that MtB had one & Magnetman from reading older threads & it does seem to be very good .When i looked thru old threads & general google-age i found several references to these pot belly stoves being generally bobbins . Poorly made & cheap . Especially those fron Machine Mart but that older ones are better .

It has a unique classic look and perhaps isn’t as suited to extremely modern fit-outs. It has a tiny glass window through which you can view the fire and a removable ash pan for easy cleanout.

I had to replace my Epping stove because there was no room to install sufficient insulation around it. I replaced it with a Hobbit and so far this has worked well. I don't usually spend much of the winter on the boat but intend to this year, so it will have a good workout. it is a really cute stove standing about 50cm high if not a bit less. i bought mine from canvas and cast who do a deal with tent, or a deal with the flue or you can just buy the stove... am now consiering getting one for my conservatory which is perrishing in the winter as there is no heating in there. The flue and thru' roof mounting cost more than the stove did, but if you can accept the flue cost, or find an alternative its a great stove. They’re a great little stove for the right person or people, and they’re known for being durable over time. They’ll stand up to a lot of use over many years and continually perform well.

My sister is going to use the boat for weekends so heating essential. The boat has a Kabota 2 cylinder diesel inboard. it runs and sounds fine. Any timing belt to worry about etc? The Pipsqueak is approx 3KW and is ideal for camping, on the beach, in sheds or small spaces such as boats. The biggest problem with the pipsqueak is that there is no control over the airflow, which I'd consider essential. The only way to do so is to bend the baffle inside the stove, which you need to do to get it to burn differing fuels safely (otherwise it will either produce too much smoke or burn way too hot).May be the older Pipsqueak could be bottom air flow controlled with opening a few mm the ash tray drawer (I do it sometimes) Most people looking to buy a stove for their boat or camper want to also be able to cook on it, so it’s definitely a benefit of the Pipsqueak.
