About this deal

note: there are very minor punctuation/editing errors sprinkled here and there such as random quotation marks, missing em dashes in certain dialogues, extra periods, inconsistent ellipses formatting, and literally the name of the kingdom not being capitalized one time (as well as some contestants' last names). too many "!?" uses (okay that one is a me thing lol. why are we yelling so much??😺) I will say, the little thingy thing between Paedyn and Kai's brother Kitt was giving enemies to lovers more than the actual marketed enemies to lovers. A lot of enemies to lovers nowadays is just insta-love where they're immediately attracted to each other but oh no they're enemies. Knife to throat. Witty banter. Whatever that means. That was Paedyn and Kai. Kitt and Paedyn's drama had the real sauce. Every time she saw him she was reminded of the man who killed her father, and slowly had to begin to see him as a real person and appreciate him for who he was. Enemies to lovers where they have to do work, challenge notions about themselves to be together, that's what's good. The slowburn. Idfk what endgame is, but I wish we got more of whatever was going on between Kitt and Paedyn rather than chapter after chapter of Paedyn and Kai. No one knows this better than Paedyn Gray, an Ordinary posing as a Psychic to blend in with the Elites. When she unsuspectingly saves one of Ilya’s princes, Kai Azer, she’s thrown into the Purging Trials, a brutal competition showcasing the Elites’ powers.

No one knows this better than Paedyn Gray, an Ordinary posing as an Elite. When she unsuspectingly saves one of Ilya’s princes, Kai Azer, she’s thrown into the Purging Trials, a brutal competition to showcase her ‘Elite’ powers. Only the extraordinary belong in the kingdom of Ilya . . . Red Queen meets The Hunger Games in the most epic and sizzling fantasy romance book of the year. the first half of this book was nearly a copy and paste of the hunger games. while some readers probably want that, it took away from originality for me. i could NOT stop comparing for storyline. (i have not read red queen, so i can’t compare to that one.) A great debut in my opinion. For this being Lauren’s first book, I was impressed. It has a solid storyline and great characters. Overall, I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for the story to continue. If the Trials and the opponents don’t kill her, the prince she’s fighting feelings for will if he discovers what Paedyn really is . . . completely Ordinary.

The Elites have possessed powers for decades, gifted to them by the Plague, while those born Ordinary are just that, banished from the kingdom of Ilya and shunned from society. No one knows this better than Paedyn Gray, an Ordinary posing as a Psychic to blend in with the Elites. When she unsuspectingly saves one of Ilya's princes, Kai Azer, she's thrown into the Purging Trials, a brutal competition showcasing the Elites' powers. Powerless is set in the kingdom of Ilya, where there are Elites and Ordinaries- the Elites possess incredible powers and seek to get rid of the Ordinaries, as they believe them to corrupt society. Paedyn Gray is an Ordinary posing as an Elite to prevent her being hunted by the Elites. When she meets Kai Azer, one of Ilya's princes, sparks fly- and then they both end up in the Purging Trials, a brutal competition where the most talented Elites display their powers. But without a power, Paedyn must fight to survive the trials- and protect her heart from Kai, who she knows she shouldn't fall for... overall, i think everyone that loves romantasy should read this one if they haven’t yet! i loved all the elements of this book & will forever recommend it for those getting into fantasy! it had a similar vibe of the first TOG book, fourth wing, etc!! if you loved those, you will truly enjoy this one!

Powerless By Roberts Lauren |The Works

I grew up reading Wattpad, and a metric shit ton of it. So, I'm very familiar with amateur writing, unpolished writing, and writing for fun, for the sake of writing. I do think writers should be compensated for their work, I can't expect everyone who's just writing what they love to do it for free, but like... there should be standards for a published novel that elevate it above something you can access for free on Wattpad (IN MY OPINION).The characters are nothing new. Take whatever recently published fantasy book dubbed as a ‘TikTok book’, and you will find the same 2D, boring, plain characters. While the plot was fun overall, i do think the Trials aspect could've been better. I expected them to way longer and a little more... exciting. the actual story felt a little overwhelmed by the romance and the world was also barelyy developed at all 🫤🫤 The book follows Paedyn Gray, an Ordinary, into the Trials of Ilya where she will either succeed or die. But in this Trials, she faces people that have been training for years for these games… sound familiar? I liked the characters. They were okay? I mean I like my heroes either tall dark and mysterious or sweet with a golden retriever energy. Kai was neither. He was just a charming flirty chill dude. I mean he was okay, just didn’t stand out to me. Paedyn was an okay heroine as well. I liked her. The tension and banter between them was so enjoyable to watch.

The Powerless Trilogy by Lauren Roberts - Goodreads

Surviving in the slums as an Ordinary is no simple task, and Paedyn knows this better than most. Having been trained by her father to be keenly observant since she was a child, Paedyn poses as a Psychic in the crowded city, blending in with the Elites as best she can to stay alive and out of trouble…easier said than done. The thing about building a book around tropes is that tropes are not meant to be the foundation of a book. Tropes are simply things that should come natural to the characters, things that enrich the reading process. A book based on tropes is a book with weak planning.

Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, this young adult fantasy follows the forbidden romance between a powerful prince and an ordinary girl as they try to survive their kingdom’s grueling laws pitting them against each other.
