Heroine is a complete and utter doormat while the hero is a manwhore who has sex with countless OW while supposedly being in love with her the whole time. He even attempts to have sex with OW after he and the heroine have passionately made out (it gets interrupted with OW for external reasons but they still kiss, etc). What's even worse is both Cole and Livvy read like fake plastic people. I can't connect to fake plastic people! BookTok did this to me. I'm not sure why it chose to do me this way or what I may have done to warrant this sort of treatment but nonetheless, here I am. Again. All we saw was a lot of already existing, unexplainable feelings for each other (they were legitimately already in love with one another when the book started). So there wasn't anywhere to go.

While some reviewers criticize the book for being too male-gaze-y, the sensitive portrayal of Cole’s protective nature towards Livy adds depth to their relationship. I really don't like the i-have-loved-you-for-years-but-i-f-everybody-else. h is pure ofc, but dreams about H and marriage to him, but at the same time 4 out of 5 years she thought she could only have Christian husband. This book wasn’t a die hard erotic read which I thought it would be and hoped. But it strikes me as important. And the story of our characters hails to a certain truth that needed to be written out and expressed. I’m giving it 4 stars because it was well written, and I imagine Olivia to be exactly (with the exception of nuances of course) what a woman in her circumstances would need to take their own leap of faith. (😉🤭) What I do know is that, as someone who isn’t particularly religious, this book must be the devil incarnate bc it almost sent me to church. I’m not sure even holy water could cleanse the images eternally burned into my dungeon of a mind.

It pisses me off that after he told her that, she was only thinking like "oh, I'm sure I'm going to make him change his mind and want to be with me". I devoured this book! Make out with them in front of her? Later in the book he says to h about all the OWs around her "but you never acted jealous" .. I'm not Christian nor religious and I think the whole purity thing is horrid. The way her dad cried and said she was not a 'little girl' anymore - I wanted to vomit The book started off at a point where the characters had pretty much independently been in love with each other, throughout the entirety of their childhood- but we didn't get to see ANY of that.
