The 1GB of extra RAM adds some increased performance, but the Android OS features some extras that adds to the overall experience of using this device, which isn’t something i’d typically say because I love the Linux OS on most of the best retro handhelds, it’s easy to use, easy to understand and you can typically give it to a child to understand, but there’s a few reasons why I have moved to using purely Android on the RG353V. Swipe down twice from the top to fully open the shade then select the gear icon in the right corner of the shade. A power step up from previous generations of Anbernic handhelds, adding libraries like the N64 and Dreamcast makes for a compelling value upgrade for those that have been loving their 351V but wanted a bit more. The popularity of the Anbernic retro game consoles has been hyped up in the recent 2 years but still, some of you might run into issues during use. The RG353V variant, for instance. More specifically, there are 2 options: The rg353v and the rg353vs. The differences between the 2 are quite obvious: the rg353vs is an elite edition of the RG353V, that is to say, it does not have Android, and Touchscreen and wireless projection are not supported. Running on Android means that you will have access to a collection of built-in Android games.

To add your games, simply find the corresponding file folder for the game system and add all of your favourite ROMs to it.

Next, open each app to provide file storage access and set your controller mapping. Generally this will be done by opening the app, looking for a menu item called Open Content or Open ROM then pointing to your ROM folder for that system and providing storage access. Your older consoles such as NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, and PS1 will play flawlessly on this thing, and so it should, that level of emulation has been around for years for much cheaper.

ArkOS is a great firmware that’s been around for a while so it’s a great OS with lots of development behind it. This OS provides a lot more configuration options for those of you that love to tinker with settings. It comes with all of the emulators you’ll need to play the games you want.Q. Can I use external controllers with this unit? A. Yes. Bluetooth and USB controllers should work with the unit. For bluetooth controllers, make sure to go to Bluetooth in the options system section just before Retroarch and run it. It will start the Bluetooth connection manager. Put your bluetooth controller into pairing mode and select Connect to new Bluetooth device and add your bluetooth device. Q. Can the mouse pointer that's always visible in the upper right corner of Drastic (NDS Emulator) be removed? A. As of the writing of this entry (11/10/2020), it can not be removed. It’s unfortunately a "feature" of the emulator for the time being. Resolved as of the 1/28/2021 update. Q. My unit doesn't seem to boot from the SD card anymore. What could be the issue? A. It could be one of the following issues:

Powering the device is a 3200 mAh battery, which Anbernic has stated will last up to 6 hours of usage. Of course, your mileage will vary depending on how much horsepower your gaming demands. You’ll be likely to have much more battery time out of easy tasks like NES or Genesis emulation than you would out of the more challenging N64 or Dreamcast.

Anyway, when you do need to dive into the options to tweak a setting here or there, the Linux experience keeps a lot of the major stuff in the frontend. You get to avoid the kerfuffle of learning the ins and outs of, say, Retroarch, and instead set major global and per-game options in a user-friendly list. It also provides easy access to all of your UI customization, media scraping tools, and updates. Booting the Android frontend brings you to this uh Cyberpunk Arcade Trailer This OS does not come pre-installed with Google Play store so you’ll either have to sideload your apps, use a third-party app like the Aurora Store, or follow a walkthrough on installing the Google Play store onto the device.

And the same goes for Dreamcast. Many Dreamcast games worked okay on the Linux side, but not so good through the Android operating system, so this will require some tinkering within the settings. Another great firmware is UnofficialOS. This OS originally started as a compiled distribution of the JELOS firmware after the JELOS team stopped providing compiled images. It has now morphed into it’s own fork of the JELOS firmware with it’s own custom development making it a separate OS.The device has a 3.5″ 640*480 IPS display as is the norm for these mid-tier handhelds. Whether there is much difference in colour temperature between the touch/non-touch versions remains to be seen. Once the Linux OS has booted up for the first time and everything has been configured, making your way around is pretty straight forward. When I'm in a game, I go to the retroarch menu and make a change and when I attempt to save the current configuration, it fails to save. Why is that happening? ArkOS development has been fairly active, with numerous updates for 353 devices released throughout November/December.
