The limit comes with larger cameras such as the Canon C100 MKII which is just too large, as it was with the Ronin-S. The one issue I did find was getting the initial positions of the arms correct. On the old Ronin-S, there was always a bit of a battle to subtly adjust the arms positions; this subtlety is even more difficult with these new carbon arms. While the system is smaller, better designed, and much easier to use, there’s still a lot of excess in cables poking out of the setup, especially if you’ve connected all the accessories. This is by no means a deal breaker, but moving forward, and especially with the advances in wireless technology, it’d be a very welcome addition to see these systems be able to connect without the use of all the USB cables Battery Life Wasn’t as Good as Expected

The first few cycles of the battery didn’t seem to be super long-lasting, but my guess was this was because it was a new battery and needed to be “broken in” for the system. Conclusion Utilizing technology from our Tilta Arm and forthcoming Hydra-Arm system, we have devised a more portable mounting solution that adapts the RS 2 for camera placement, stability, and portability that has usually been restricted to big budget productions. Multiple options of suction cups facilitate installations on car doors, car hoods, or any other flat surfaces. It functions like a Russian Arm and switches with ease from high angle to low angle, and many other positions; all within one take. The remote control hand unit is user friendly and supports remote run/stop. It’s a really neat solution, and the positioning is spot on. If you do want that side focus wheel, then there is an accessory available for an additional cost.

However, in use, you soon get used the layout but would recommend adding an arm to help with the handling. I use the Ronin-S at least once a week, and the additional side grip is the one accessory I couldn’t now do without. That’s not all it is also smaller, which has been made possible by the advances in technology. The new RS 2 measures in at 410 x 260 x 195mm including the grip but without the extension, grip added. In use, the power of the small motor is incredible and enables you to easily capture that professional, smooth fluid motion that these devices have been designed to enable. This combo doesn’t come close to maxing out its motors, but no matter what we put on it, the motors gave no lag or resistance/strain.
