Ryūko retreats and collapses when stepping off the tram heading downtown. When she awoke, she found herself in the house of the Mankanshoku family and reluctantly had dinner with them that consists of questionable food. Ryūko reminisces about how she first met the talking Kamui uniform and partnered with it after naming it Senketsu as in “Fresh Blood”. Romano, Aja (April 3, 2014). "Kill La Kill: How the year's most polarizing anime became a smash hit". The Daily Dot. Archived from the original on May 26, 2015 . Retrieved April 20, 2015. Ryūko watches Satsuki telling Ragyō that she always planned to rise up against her and making a plea to all the people watching the broadcast of the Festival to burn their Revocs clothing. The Elite Four neutralize Rei Hōōmaru and face off against Nui Harime, to allow Satsuki to finish off Ragyō. Satsuki recalls how her father told her of her mother's plans and that Junketsu would be her wedding dress. She talks about how Ragyō married Soichiro Kiryūin for access to his skills and how she was experimented on as a child, but failed to fuse with Life Fibers. Ragyō then attempted to fuse Life Fibers with an even younger child, her newborn daughter. The experiment seemed to have failed. Thus, Ragyō disposed of the child. This left Sōichiro aghast. It was at that moment that he turned against Ragyō and dedicated himself to foiling her plans. He secretly retrieved his younger daughter, who was still alive, and revealed all of Ragyō's secret plans to Satsuki, showing her Junketsu and calling it her wedding dress. He fled from the Kiryūin Manor, but Takiji Kuroido went after him and attempted to assassinate him. Sōichiro faked his death and managed to escape with his daughter, changing his identity to Isshin Matoi.

Ryuko Vol. 1 by Eldo Yoshimizu: 9781787730946

Whilst the plot threads eventually reconcile, I'm not convinced the direction was the right one. All the early momentum of the story stalled and it felt like I was reading something different to the opening chapters (despite actually enjoying what I was reading).Ryuko is a thought-provoking puzzle to wrap your head around as it has so many moving parts. The main characters and their motivations are not as simple as they might appear. Sometimes there is a fine line between heroism and villainy, and Yoshimizu’s character walk that tightrope. Coupled with its excellent stance on politics, religion, and morality, you’ll likely enjoy this crime-centric narrative. RYOKO」も. Comic Natalie (in Japanese). Natasha, Inc. December 4, 2018. Ryuko Volume 1 By Eldo Yoshimizu |The Works

Not quite as visually messy as the first volume, but the story basically explodes all over the place — it’s about family, it’s about destiny, it’s about US Imperialism, it’s about covert nastiness, it’s about the Empress of a worldwide crime organization choosing yo be one a Buddhist nun, and and and…. Most frustrating is tgat Ryuko herself, the center of this and the story’s lynchpin, is woefully undeveloped…other characters are much more rounded, even as action girl Ryuko comes roaring down the middle. Written and illustrated by Kaito Mitsuhashi, Ryoko was preceded by a work titled Ryoko Meet Meal!!, for which Mitsuhashi, at 21, won the Shin Shedai Sunday Award (New Generation Sunday Award) for his work in December 2015. [2] [3] Takenori Ichihara, Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday editor-in-chief, decided to make Ryoko a serialized work, being the first time in 38 years that an editor-in-chief directly chooses a newcomer's work to being serialized in the magazine, since Rumiko Takahashi's Kattena Yatsura ( Urusei Yatsura prototype) in 1978. It was also the first time that a newcomer award-winning work would be serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday, since Obi wo Gyutto Ne! [ ja] by Katsutoshi Kawai [ ja] (1989 debut) and Ushio and Tora by Kazuhiro Fujita (1990 debut). [2] [4]Luster, Joseph (October 4, 2013). "Anime First Impressions: Kill la Kill". Otaku USA. However, she finally understands later on that the only way to be able to use Senketsu to his full potential is to wear him proudly and be open to him. Ryūko cares for Senketsu and considers him a dear friend, even to the point of saying that if Senketsu were to be taken from her they would have to pry him from her cold dead fingers. She was also very concerned when Senketsu was being washed very roughly by Mako's mother. Originally, she decided never to wear Senketsu anymore because she feels that she is a Life Fibers monster herself. After coming to her senses and separating herself from Junketsu, she has rekindled her bond with Senketsu. Ryuuko Matoi is a girl who travels with a single red scissor blade, searching for the wielder of the other blade who killed her father. She arrives at Honouji Academy, a high school that lives in fear. It is ruled over by the fearsome student council, led by the student council president, Satsuki Kiryuuin, who use powerful uniforms to crush anyone in their path. After suffering a crushing defeat at the hands of Satsuki, Ryuuko comes accross a possessed school uniform named Senketsu, who puts himself on Ryuuko, granting her special abilities. Teaming up with Senketsu, Ryuuko stands up against Satsuki and the student council to liberate Honnouji Academy from their iron grip and find out the truth behind her father's murder.
