Upon arrival, you will receive the SR850s, a 1/8″ to 1/4″ adapter, and the manual. Not the best but not the worst. Compared to other headphones The soundstage could be larger for a semi-open headphone, but at least imaging is accurate. Samson SR850 studio headphones come with high-end sound, but cheap design. Why Buy Samson SR850? I’ve heard rumors that the 240 does tend to break down over time, but I haven’t experienced it for myself yet. Comfort Compared to Samson’s SR850, AKG K240 headphones are more “balanced” over the audible spectrum. It’s not like the SR850 is bad, but we’d rather recommend K240 over them. With that in mind, we can confidently say that Samson SR850 are more than worth the price. Honestly, we’re yet to find a pair within this price range that competes with them. They’re comfortable, they have a decent build quality, and they sound pretty great. What more do you need? Price & Value For Money: AKG K240

Sure, there are more comfortable options in this price range, but none sound that good. They’re also usually bloated with tons of bass. If you seek neutrality, Samson’s are as close as you can get. There were times when it legitimately felt like surround sound speakers in that I could hear things that I kind of thought were noises happening outside of me. An example of this is the Method Man scene in Garden State. If you want the SR850 but need more low end thump and noise cancellation, go for the SR950. Who are the Samson SR850s best suited for?Overall, the Samson SR850 are great sounding headphones at this price range. The bass is present, but do not expect it to be punchy. The mids are generous and the treble response seems to be the only weak point. Overall, it is a sort of a bright headphone. The soundstage is pretty good, though it is a semi-open headphone, which is to be expected. Let’s delve into the details below. Low-End (Bass) When it comes to treble, let’s just say that these headphones are… wonky. The entire region is exaggerated, making the low-highs sound harsh and the mid-highs piercing.

While I like the appearance of the SR850, it does sport a few design features which could be better. The most notable is the hardwired cable. The 8.4’ (2.5 m) straight cable is high quality, but I always prefer having the flexibility to swap out cables.I read a comment of yours saying that you put 5db down the 9-10k frequencies. Is there any need of fine-tuning the while EQ to make the frequencies more flatter? In the graph, the frequencies around 15-18k is also very high, and the frequency between 4-5k a bit low. Also, the base levels are curved down from around 150Hz to 20Hz. Is there any need of increasing that too? I want to listen in almost possible flat way, that’s why I’m asking this. If you're a jazz&classical fan, the HD668B will have a slight edge. If you're more into modern music, the SR might be a better fit. For the most part, they are incredibly detailed and have a nice sense of air about them, but I will caution you that it will likely need some EQ. Gaming However, because the material can’t breathe, you get sweaty ears after an hour of use. We mainly played games on them, and we needed to take breaks once our ears began to ache.
